We are seeking the best work in documentary, fiction, digital/new media production, screenwriting and photography. Students and
work from all skill levels will receive recognition.

Step1: For each submission, compress all deliverables into a .zip folder
Mac: (ctrl click > compress), Windows: (right click >
send-to > compressed (zipped) folder
rename .zip to: submission-category_last-name_project-title.zip
Step2: For each .zip folder, create a shared folder (

Step3: In the “Invite Collaborators” dialogue box type: soc.visions@gmail.com
In the “Send Personal Message”
dialogue box, include your project’s name, your full name, the award category, and any other relevant information.
Incomplete applications or materials will not be considered for judging.
Students must list all applicable information as well as any and all collaborators as requested on the application.
Music and other copyrighted material, for which you are not claiming fair use, must be cleared for non-exclusive
home video, educational, online, broadcast and theatrical distribution. Students submitting documentaries may use the “Documentary
Filmmakers’ Statement of Best Practices in Fair Use” as a guide located at centerforsocialmedia.org
Students may submit more than one project to Visions, however each project can only be submitted to a single category.

Mounted Prints
You may submit up to 6 single photographs.
Each mounted print should include the photographer’s name, image title, and the image format (digital, silver gelatin, etc.).
Drop off all mounted prints at the Photo Lab office, MGC 307.
2.) Digital Submission
You must provide a digital copy for each mounted print submitted.

The theme of Visions is MAKING MEDIA MATTER . Describe how your media matters to your audience or
the public at large. How does your concept, design, and story illuminate, express, inform, or connect. Most importantly,

I hereby authorize and consent for American University (“University”) to the taking of photographs, motion pictures and/or audio tape
recordings of myself (herein “Materials”) and screen the materials I have submitted for Visions 2014. I hereby consent to and authorize
the University to use and/or publish said Materials for the following purposes: 1. Teaching and information applications; 2. Professional
journals and papers; 3. Institutional publicity and public relations, including without limitation the publication of my image on the University’s
website; 4. Archival purposes; and 5. Any other purpose which the University deems fit in the interest of education, knowledge, research,
marketing, advertising, or public relations. I agree that all right, title and interest in and to all such photographs, motion pictures and
audiotapes and any reproductions or derivative work thereof shall be the exclusive property of American University. I understand that the
University may keep or may use the Materials and derivative works now and in the future. I agree that the University does not owe me any
compensation for the acts that I have consented to in this agreement. I hereby release American University, its officers, directors, agents and
employees from all liability or legal responsibility that may arise from the acts that I have authorized or consented to herein.
