What%is%the%Collaborative?%%
The$collaborative$is$a$group$of$up$to$6$EMU$faculty$who$will$meet$over$6$to$7$sessions$to$
survey,$study,$discuss,$develop$and/or$integrate$civic$components$into$curriculum,$
classes,$pedagogy$and/or$scholarly$or$creative$activity.$
The%intent%of%the%Collaborative%is$to$increase$awareness$and$engagement$of$the$role$
and$place$of$the$civic$at$EMU.$Working$with$the$AAC&U's$high$impact$practices,$but$
most$specifically$the$CLDE$(Civic$Learning$and$Democratic$Engagement)$Network,$faculty$
will$work$to,$“address$society's$civic$challenges$by$using$placeLbased$strategies$to$better$
define$and$actualize$civic$learning$within$their$teaching,$departments,$programs,$and/or$
disciplines,$(https://www.aacu.org/clde)$”.$$
A%primary%directive$of$this$collaborative$is$draw$faculty$from$various$programs$and$
disciplines$who$will$work$both$collectively$on$mapping$out$the$civic$at$EMU's$using$
AAC&U's$Civic$Institutional$Matrix$(assessing$assets$and$gaps),$and$independently$on$
developing$their$own$projects$or$initiatives.$$
The$Collaborative$will$explore$such$questions$as:$$

What$is$placed$based$learning$and$how$might$it$assist$in$addressing$societal$$civic$
challenges?$
How$might$place$based$learning$strategies$assist$in$defining$the$civic$within$
departments,$programs$and$disciplines.$
What$is$publicly$engaged$scholarship$

A$matrix$of$EMU$(collectively$crafted)$
A$reflection$on$their$own$teaching,$service,$and$research$using$a$placeLbased$lens.$
A$plan,$program,$scholarly$endeavor,$curriculum$enhancement,$pedagogical$
transformation$that$reflects$and$reinforces$the$ideas$and/or$strategies$explored$
in$this$collaborative.$
Collaborative%Details:$This$Collaborative$will$host$up$to$6$faculty$members.$Each$will$
receive$a$$500.00$each$stipend.$$
Faculty$will$need$to$participate$in$6$to$7$meetings$(collaborative$sessions)$at$1.5$to$2$
hours$over$the$course$of$the$Winter$2016$semester.$Priority$will$be$given$to$faculty$who$
participated$at$any$time$in$the$Academic$ServiceLLearning$Faculty$Fellows$seminar$
