This number reflects the number of AIDS cases reported this month to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human
Services. As of February 1996, AIDS cases in North Carolina are attributed to year of report. The cumulative number for
AIDS cases is 1,589 in Mecklenburg County and 12,177 in North Carolina as of December 31, 2002. The cumulative
number of AIDS cases reported to the CDC is 816,149 as of December 31, 2001. AIDS case reporting began in 1984.
Numerical difference for AIDS/HIV is an adjustment for State, County active/escrow reports. For questions please contact

The cumulative number for HIV Infection (not AIDS) is 4,011 in Mecklenburg County and 23,770 in North Carolina. This
figure is based on reports of confidential testing done between February 1990 – December 31, 2002. Numerical difference for
