HIV disease represents all diagnoses of HIV infection regardless of the stage of the disease. Therefore AIDS cases are considered a subset of HIV Disease. HIV disease reports and AIDS case reports should never be combined to estimate an infected population, and should be considered separately. 2 Category A Bioterrorism Agents/Disease including pathogens that are rarely seen in the United States and that pose a risk to national security because they can be easily disseminated or transmitted from person to person; result in high mortality rates and have the potential for major public health impact; might cause public panic and social disruption; and require special action for public health preparedness. 3 Case numbers are lower than expected or not available due to transition to a new reporting system. 4 Rabies: 1 Raccoon (February) Statistics complied by Mecklenburg County Health Department Epidemiology, Communicable Disease, TB and STD Programs FEBRUARY 2014
