Emerging as a researcher in the new normal Roger G. Dawson Sarah L. Tritt Library, Teaching and Learning Lincoln University Poster presentation at Lincoln University Postgraduate Conference 28-29 August 2012 : Where to from here – the new normal? ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION The primary focus for most emerging researchers is their thesis, but in the digital environment there are opportunities to benefit from other research activities that occur during the transition from the formation of ideas to the submitted document. Having awareness of prospects beyond the traditional model of publishing, increases the likelihood of better recording, preserving and communicating research outputs in the digital paradigm. Contributing to open access initiatives builds researcher credibility, reputation and peer esteem, and supports the shared global research community. The new normal amplifies the need to Contain, Protect, and Maximise research outputs Postgraduate students are encouraged to recognise the value of the research outputs they produce while studying for a higher degree. The digital publishing environment provides opportunities for researchers to add value to their research portfolio by optimising scholarly work as it is produced.
