Each year, the Board hires approximately 60 recent graduates in economics, math, or related fields
as RAs. These positions are highly competitive and very quantitative in nature. While at the Board,
RAs work closely with economists and analysts on a broad range of topics covering real-world
policy issues and academic-type research. After their time at the Board, many of our RAs move on
to top graduate school programs.
To be considered for these positions, candidates must submit application materials by September
30 for the Fall recruiting season and by January 31 for the Spring recruiting season. Complete
application instructions are available athttp://www.federalreserve.gov/careers/ra.htm.
A limited number of summer internships are also available each year. Application procedures and
deadline information for this program can be found
at http://www.federalreserve.gov/careers/intern_project.htm.
ECON/Math On-campus Tutor Position
The Office of Academic Diversity Initiative's (OADI) EOP/HEOP/POSSE/P3 Tutoring Program is
designed to help students help themselves, and to assist or guide them to the point at which they
become independent learners, and thus no longer need a tutor. Our goal is to improve our student's
academic performance and personal growth as well as offer a more individualized, systematic,
structured learning experience. OADI programs whereby tutoring is offered include: Arthur O. Eve
Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) and Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP), The
POSSE Program, and Pre-Professional Programs (P3).
Tutor Responsibilities
Meet with each assigned student for two hours a week to work on specific coursework.
Keep accurate records of the tutee's progress and submit required forms to the office on
Tuesdays via Google Docs.
Attend the required two tutor orientation and training sessions. This training will be paid and
must be attended to remain in good standing.
Help the tutee develop confidence and a positive attitude toward learning by affirming her/his
thinking and progress in each session.
Listen to what the tutee has to say and actively involve her/him in decisions about the
learning process. Give immediate and appropriate constructive feedback throughout each
tutoring session.
Working with the tutee to set short and long term goals, being well prepared for each
session, and planning lessons designed to help the student meet her/his self identified goals.
Notify the office if the tutee needs to stop tutoring sessions, tutee repeatedly comes late, or
does not show up to tutoring sessions.
Tutor is expected to be on time and effectively communicate absences with supervisor. More
than two unexcused absences a semester may be grounds for review of employment.
The tutor is expected to be respectful (of tutee's culture and beliefs), patient, supportive and
attentive and must maintain a professional relationship with the tutee at all times.
Tutors are not expected to do a tutee's homework. Instead, the tutor can demonstrate how to do a
similar problem or help the tutee find and correct errors in her/his own work.
**Tutors are certainly not expected to know the answer to every question, but should be willing to try
to find an answer for the students from someone else, preferably their instructor.
