Petrol discounting Woolworths is proud of its role in driving value and delivering the best prices to Australian consumers in our supermarkets and at the petrol pump. We will continue to provide Australian motorists with 4 cents a litre discount on their petrol when they spend more than $30 in our supermarket. We will also continue to provide petrol discounts of 8 cents a litre when shoppers spend an additional $5 on merchandise at our petrol sites. Woolworths has kept prices down and is helping Australian families manage their budgets. Last year average prices in our supermarkets decreased by 2.9 per cent, as well as offering market leading petrol offers that have been highly valued by our customers. The announcement today by the ACCC marks the end of their investigation into petrol discounting. Woolworths maintains there is no competition problem arising from the discounts. We have provided an undertaking to the ACCC that includes discontinuing petrol discounts above 4 cents a litre that are linked to supermarket spending from 1 January 2014. We are disappointed that our customers will no longer be able to benefit from higher discounts from next year. However, we will provide a range of fuel discounts over the Christmas period to give some relief to our customers at this critical time of year. Woolworths has been offering petrol discounts for more than 16 years, and will continue to do so to deliver value to our customers, particularly when cost of living pressures remain a critical concern.
