Woolworths Supermarkets Giving Local Program 10 May 2013: Woolworths is currently trialling a new way of delivering support to the communities they operate in through the Giving Local program. This new approach gives customers the ability to choose the local causes their Woolies will support each month. Each store will have three boxes representing the three local groups or causes chosen for that month. Customers will receive a token at the checkout, which they can then deposit into their chosen organisation’s box. At the end of each month the $1000 kitty will be shared out amongst the groups according to the number of tokens they have received. Customers in the participating areas can also nominate community groups for consideration in the following months. This program is a great way for shoppers to play a role in their local community. The program is being trialled in May and June at Woolworths stores in Marrickville and St Clair in New South Wales, Ashwood in Victoria, Sandy Bay in Tasmania, Carramar in Western Australia, Hilton in South Australia and Fairfield Central in Townsville, Queensland.
