The project team discussed the NIP area and scope and presented plans with outlined improvements to individual properties. The majority of attendees were pleased with the proposed improvements. Proposed Improvements The NIP will provide the following improvements: • • • • Five-foot wide sidewalk along one side of Stonehurst Drive, David Avenue, Eagle Peak Drive, a portion of Claremont Road and Pawtuckett Road and short portions of Running Deer Road and Swift Arrow Lane Gutter along one side of Hoover Circle and Wesbrook Drive New storm drainage pipe installation under Glenmoor Drive and David Avenue Possible connection of Glenmoor Drive to Kismet Drive (based upon approval of adjacent property owners) Comments The following includes some comments raised at the meeting. The City’s response to those comments are below. A complete list of comments from the public meeting can be found on the project website. Flooding occurs at the intersection of Sullins Road and Pawtuckett Road near the creek and the culvert under Stonehurst Drive is clogged. These problems have been reported to Storm Water Services. Pawtuckett Road should be extended to the shopping center. The Charlotte Department of Transportation (CDOT) is studying this connection and will provide an update in the next mailer. A large amount of storm water is flowing along David Avenue, beginning at Little Rock Road and passing by the Ashford Street cul-de-sac. The Pawtuckett Neighborhood Improvement Project will not address this issue. Currently, runoff from Little Rock Road drains down David Avenue. The Little Rock Road Realignment Project proposes to improve the intersection of David Avenue and Little Rock Road with new storm drainage along with curb and gutter. These improvements will capture runoff originating from Little Rock Road before reaching David Avenue. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2012. Add stop signs, speed limit signs, directional signals and speed humps to Claremont Road. Please call 311 to report traffic issues. CDOT will then investigate the concerns. The Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities (CMU) culvert near 6622 Wesbrook Drive has not been removed. CMU is scheduled to complete this work by the end of February 2010. How will construction affect access to our properties? The contractor will work with each affected homeowner during construction to ensure all access needs are met. There will be a brief period of time when the driveway will be blocked to construct sidewalk and repair the driveway pavement. The contractor will make sure the homeowner is aware of when this will take place so arrangements can be made. Provide an update about the proposed Crossridge Neighborhood Park. Crossridge Neighborhood Park is a voter approved 2008 Park Bond project. Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation will utilize an extensive site master planning process that involves community meetings and design charettes to determine park priorities and amenity needs. For more information, please contact Park Planner Joyce Figueroa at 704-336-5485 or joyce.figueroa@mecklenburgcountync.gov. Next Steps The Design Phase will continue and full construction plans will be drawn. This phase is expected to be complete by September 2010. The project team will continue to keep you informed on the status of this project by sending a postcard or newsletter every four months.
