Responses to Questions Raised at January 14th Public Meeting
Flooding occurs at the intersection of Sullins Road and Pawtuckett Road near the creek. Water stands in
the road after a hard rain.
This problem has been reported to Storm Water Services.
The culvert under Stonehurst Drive is clogged.
This problem has been reported to Storm Water Services.
Pawtuckett Road should be extended to the shopping center.
Matt Magnasco with Charlotte Department of Transportation (CDOT) has been alerted. He will
examine the possibility of the connection. He will provide an update in the next mailer.
A large amount of storm water is flowing along David Avenue, beginning at Little Rock Road and passing
by the Ashford Street cul-de-sac.
The Pawtuckett Neighborhood Improvement Project will not address this issue. Currently, runoff
from Little Rock Road drains down David Avenue. The Little Rock Road Realignment Project
proposes to improve the intersection of David Avenue and Little Rock Road with new storm drain
and curb & gutter. These improvements will capture runoff originating from Little Rock Road
before reaching David Avenue. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2012.
A few residents do not want sidewalk along Swift Arrow Lane.
Unfortunately, the sidewalk cannot be removed along Swift Arrow Lane because it will connect
the proposed sidewalks from Pawtuckett Road to David Avenue.
A resident does not want sidewalk along Eagle Peak Drive.
It is possible to remove the sidewalk along Eagle Peak Drive because it does not connect
proposed sidewalk. The City team needs to know by March if the neighborhood supports this
portion of sidewalk.
Stop sign is blocked by bushes on Swift Arrow Lane.
CDOT Street Maintenance has been notified to remove the obstruction. The leaves and limbs will
be removed in the spring.
The Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities (CMU) culvert near 6622 Wesbrook Drive has not been removed.
CMU is scheduled to complete this work by the end of February 2010.
Is there a more efficient layout to connect pedestrian movement in the neighborhood?
The City team believes the current sidewalk layout to be most efficient and this alignment has
been surveyed.
Add stop signs, speed limit signs, directional signals, and speed humps to Claremont Road.
Please call 3-1-1 to report traffic issues along Claremont Road. Terry VonCannon with CDOT will
then investigate the concerns. If you have questions, please call him at 704-336-6786.
Add stop signs and speed humps to Glenmoor Drive.
If the street connection is built, CDOT will implement traffic calming along Glenmoor Drive as
part of the NIP. If you want stop signs, please call 3-1-1.
How will construction affect access to our properties?
The Contractor will work with each affected homeowner during construction to ensure all access
needs are met while working in front of the property. There will be a brief period of time when
the driveway will be blocked to construct sidewalk and repair the driveway pavement. The
Contractor will make sure the homeowner is aware of when this will take place, so arrangements
can be made.
The intersection of Little Rock Road and David Avenue floods.
The Little Rock Realignment Project will alleviate flooding at this intersection. Construction is
anticipated to begin in 2012.
Will the existing sidewalks be repaired with the NIP?
No, the NIP does not plan to repair the existing sidewalks. Please call 3-1-1 and notify Street
Maintenance of any issues, such as, cracks, buckling or missing segments.
We are concerned about the length of the construction period and construction traffic.
Construction will move quickly along the streets receiving sidewalk. It is unlikely that sidewalk
construction will last more than a few days at each property. The travel lanes will narrow a bit
to accommodate for construction vehicles, but two-way traffic will be maintained. When only
one travel lane is available, the contractor will provide a flagger to help safely direct traffic.
Sidewalk construction typically does not require a large work force, so construction traffic will be
limited to a few places at a time throughout the neighborhood.
David Avenue and Glenmoor Drive will be closed at the creek crossing in order to construct new
storm drain. Both roads will NOT be closed at the same time. Estimated closure time will be
about a month at each street. Traffic will be temporarily detoured around the closures during
construction.
The speed humps in the neighborhood need improvement.
CDOT has been notified to review the condition of the speed humps.
Street lights have been requested throughout the neighborhood.
Please visit this website for details on how to obtain streetlights:

Sidewalk should be proposed from David Avenue down Ashford Street.
At earlier public meetings, residents in this area petitioned against sidewalk along Ashford St.
Pawtuckett Road needs to be resurfaced.
CDOT Street Maintenance will be resurfacing the portion of Pawtuckett Rd from Running Dear Rd
to Swift Arrow Ln with the 2010 Resurfacing Contract.
Provide an update about the proposed Neighborhood Park – Crossridge Park.
Crossridge Neighborhood Park is a voter approved 2008 Park Bond project. Mecklenburg County
Park and Recreation will utilize an extensive site master planning process that involves
community meetings and design charettes to determine park priorities and amenities needs.
Neighborhood parks typically include playgrounds, picnic shelters, walking trails, basketball
courts, etc… For more information, please contact Park Planner Joyce Figueroa at 704-336-5485
or via email at Joyce.Figueroa@MecklenburgCountyNC.gov.
