the wastewater collection system. Spills that occurred at wastewater plants are noted in the address.

Heavy rains causing the system to surcharge and overflow.

Grease and paper
Incoming flows were higher than the hydraulic capacity of the
distribution box causing an overflow. High flows were due to 10
MGD slug flows from collection system. Source of the flows are
still unknown but are under investigation. Plant flows were
decreased to stop overflow of distribution box #2. Plant flows
were restricted to 8 MGD with extra flow diverted to an EQ Basin
still under construction. Plant flows will be restricted until extra
flow is incorporated.
Spill at Chlorine Facility due to broken pipe fitting.

Tree fell on piper crossing creek, 40' section of pipe dropped
into creek
Grease blockage
Contractor broke sludge pipeline while clearing construction
storage area. Sludge flowed into gully leading to Irwin Creek.
On consultation with Mecklenburg County Environmental
Protection the gully was diked off below the point the sludge spill
had reached. Pipe was repaired according to proper
manufacturers recommendations.

Grease and paper in main line causing blockage
Contractor left plug in sewer line causing blockage
The Effluent Filter had been removed from service, bypassed,
and isolated to perform an inspection and evaluation of the
valves located in the interior chambers of the Filter. The valves
were not returned to the correct position prior to placing the filter
back into service. Operations Staff immediately shut down the
Effluent Filter pumps while the bypass valves were opened. The
standing water was contained and the area cleaned up.
