TherehavebeenanumberofquestionsbroughttoattentionofAAregardinghowthe
electroniccourseevaluationsystemworks.Belowisalistingofthesealongwith
responses.
• Didtheevaluationquestionschangewhenelectronicevaluationswereimplemented?
No.Questionspresentedthroughtheelectronicevaluationsystemareidenticalto
thosepreviouslyprovidedonthepaperevaluations.
• Whichstudentsmayparticipateintheevaluationofmycourse?
EvaluationavailabilityisdrivenbyBannerregistrationrecords.Initialavailabilityis
builtonpre-registrationdata.Asenrollmentschangeduringthesemester,these
pre-registrationrecordsaremodifiedtoaccountfor:
Studentsregisteringaftercensusareautomaticallyadded.
Studentswithdrawingaftercensusareautomaticallyremoved.
Studentswhodropclassesbeforecensus,however,arecurrentlynot
removedautomatically.CCITisfixingthisissue.Fixwillbeinplacefor
Spring,2015evaluations.
CanIproactivelyremovestudentsfrommycourseinBlackboardtopreventthemfrom
providingwhatIbelievewillbenegativeevaluations?
Currently,facultycanremovestudentsfromBlackboardtopreventthemfrom
evaluatingthecourseifaninstructordoesthisbeforeBlackboardrostersarepulled
intotheevaluationsystem.Inthiscase,thestudentiscompletelyremovedfromthe
Blackboardsite,notjustfromtheevaluationprocess.
This,however,willchangefortheSpring,2015.Ifafacultymemberremovesa
studentfromaBlackboardcoursewhoshouldstillbeenrolledinthecourse,that
studentwillbeautomaticallyaddedbacktoBlackboard.
Idon’tuseBlackboardformycourse.Howareevaluationsdoneinthiscase?
ItdoesnotmatterifthefacultyusesBlackboardornot,anevaluationforthecourse
iscreatedeitherwayandenrollmentsarecollectedviaBlackboard.
DoIhavetoprovidescheduledclasstimeforstudentcompletionofevaluations?
No.Youwill,however,likelyreceiveabetterresponseratetotheevaluationprocess
ifyouconductthemduringscheduledclasstime.

CanIseeindividualstudentresults?
No,facultycannotseetheevaluationresultssubmittedbyindividualstudents.Inthe
Spring,2014facultycouldseewhichstudentshadsubmittedevaluations.Startingin
theFall2015,however,thisfunctionalitywasnotenabledandfacultycurrentlyonly
seethepercentageofstudentswhohavesubmittedevaluations.
Iteachoneormoresectionsofamulti-sectioncourse.Dostudentsneedtoselectmeas
aninstructor,andcouldtheyselectotherinstructorsforevaluationpurposes?
AsconfiguredinSpringandthisFall,2014,exceptforthosecoursesmanually
changedmidsemester,yesstudentshadtoproactivelyselectyouastheirinstructor.
Movingforward,however,coursecoordinatorsmayrequestalternatecourse
configurationsinBlackboardthatwouldprovidetightercontroloverwhich
studentsmayevaluatewhichinstructors.Seetheaccompanyingpagesformore
details.
CanIrequestthatTeachingAssistantsinmycoursealsogetevaluated?
Yes,ifTeachingAssistants(TAs)needtobeevaluatedtheymustbeasTAsin
Blackboard.IfyoudonotwantTAstobeevaluated,butstillgivethemaccessto
BlackboardasaTA,anewroleisavailableinBlackboardcalled“TAnotevaluated.”
Thereisalsonowan“InstructorNoEval”roleinBlackboardforinstructorswho
shouldnotbeevaluatedbyrequirefullaccesstoaBlackboardcourse.
Ifstudentsevaluatemultipleinstructorsinonecourse,dotheyneedtoevaluateeach
instructorseparately?
No.Eachevaluationquestionispresentedseparatelyforeachinstructorand
teachingassistantandcontainstheirnameinthequestionbody.Toseewhatthis
