Opening speech by U Khin Maung Thet, Director General, Posts and Telecommunications Department ITU-UNIDO Forum on Sustainable Conformity Assessment for Asia-Pacific Region Mr. Malcom Johnson, Director of ITU Standardization Bureau, Mr.Ouseph Padikakudi,Senior Project Manager of UNIDO, Distinguished Guest from various Ministries and Department Ladies and Gentlemen, Good morning and welcome you all. It is my great honor and privilege to deliver speech at this forum and I am glad to say we are going embrace to the field of standardization for Myanmar people. During last month, we have been celebrated World Standardization Day in Yangon and afterwards this forum be held again. I hope we together be able to share experience and find the solution on how we construct Sustainable Conformity Assessment for the benefit of both our region and of Myanmar. Our people get last temper of depending on standardless products in the market. Let me express my special heartfelt thanks to Director- TSB of ITU Mr. Malcom Johnson, Mr.Ouseph Padikakudi,Senior Project Manager of UNIDO for their honorable presence and giving us the opportunity to host this precious forum and experts as well as participants from government departments, civil societies and institutions ,who bring their local and international experience to be a fruitful effective forum. Ladies and Gentleman, Market liberalization is also necessary for rapid development of national economy and standard products are the key for long term sustainable development. Standardization for product protects our customer for reliable quality and long term benefit. Standard norms and procedure make effective, simple and smooth management for the department procedure. National standard law had been submitted to the Parliament for approval and will be promulgated very soon. Twelve technical working groups are formed as the root to build National Standardization Commission. Myanma Scientific and Technological Research Department is the focal point of all the necessary process. We, Myanmar people become recognized the importance of standardization and we are working closely with International Organization such as UNIDO, IEC, ITU and ISO . Ladies and Gentleman, I hope this forum will openly discuss the pros and cons, strength and weakness of our process to hear the successful outcomes within your short stay at this forum. While you are in Myanmar, you are invited to see the tradition of more than a thousand history of Myanmar. At last not at least, we warmly welcome International Organizations as our partners and we hope you accept Myanmar as the new comer to international era with full support of ideas and technical assistance for long term coordination and cooperation.
