During that time, she was elected chair of the Faculty Senate and also served as the Physical Science Division Chair. Dr. Simone earned a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Colorado State University in Fort Collins. 2015 Scholars DR. EDWARD J. O’REILLY SCHOLARSHIP October 9th, 2015 4:00 P.M. ABBOTT HALL ROOM 101 Isaac P.J. Nies DR. HAROLD W. HAUGAN SCHOLARSHIP Dr. Carmen M. Simone was appointed as President of Trinidad State Junior College in June 2013. Since that time, she has led the institution through difficult financial circumstances, keeping students at the center of decision-making. She previously served as the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, ID. During that time, the college adopted a centralized advising model focused on student success, particularly for freshmen. In addition, she served for seven years as the Vice President for Academic Affairs at Casper College in Casper, WY. Under her leadership, the college successfully achieved a ten year reaccreditation through the Higher Learning Commission and also maintained ten specialized program accreditations. She managed an instructional budget of nearly $30 million and participated in the planning and construction of three major building projects on campus. Dr. Simone served as the president for the National Council for Instructional Administrators, an affiliate council of the American Association of Community Colleges, while at Casper College.
