Adjunct Faculty Employment Agreement between Service Employees International
Union (SEIU) Local 500 and American University
I am pleased to announce that we have reached a final agreement with Service Employees
International Union (SEIU) Local 500 on a collective bargaining agreement covering the terms of
employment of adjunct faculty at AU. The agreement has been ratified by the union membership.
Throughout the process, negotiations were collegial and collaborative. I wish to commend the
representatives and the university bargaining team, including Professor Bill LeoGrande, Associate
General Counsel Hisham Khalid, and Assistant Vice President for Human Resources Beth Muha,
for their assistance in reaching agreement expeditiously and with all due respect and consideration.
We value the enormous and unique contributions that our adjunct faculty make to the AU
community. This agreement is an expression of our commitment to working with adjunct faculty to
deepen this relationship.
