National e-Science Centre Microarray Design and Analysis e-Science Institute 2nd – 4th May 2006 The ARK-Genomics, EADGENE and National e-Science Centre sponsored microarray design and analysis course was held at the e-Science Institute in Edinburgh from the 2nd to 4th May 2006. The three-day course was organised by ARK-Genomics, the not-for-profit collaborative research centre for comparative and functional genomics in farm animals based at the Roslin Institute in Scotland. The course covered the set stages of microarray design and analysis: experimental design; image analysis; removal of outlier slides; normalisation; statistical analysis of gene expression; and interpretation and reporting of results. The course proved very popular and was fully booked, with delegates from the UK, Ireland, Sweden and Norway. The delegates appreciated the format of the course, with lectures and practical sessions run by experts in each field, using real data and case studies. Overall the delegates rated the course as very good and likely to change the way they worked in the future. This course was a repeat of the Microarray Design and Analysis Training course held at the same venue from 5th to 7th December 2005 (organised by EADGENE and ARK-Genomics). Following on the success of these courses, ARK Genomics intends to run further microarray design and analysis courses in the future.
