National e-Science Centre EGEE MA3 Wrap-up meeting e-Science Institute 25th March 2006 The goals of the meeting were: • • • • Celebration & Identification of EGEE-I training success – What are the principal achievements? – How can we best describe them so others can use our experience? – Ensure these are in final reports Identification of Issues – Where do we need to learn? – What are our first ideas about solutions? Plan for EGEE-II – In what way will it be different? – How should we adapt? Beyond EGEE-II – Sustaining and expanding training for Europe The meeting had input from several EGEE NA3 federations that were not able to be present. We had a very successful meeting. The identified highlights were: The achievement of balance organisation and adaptability Productivity – output of training and visibility / influence Exceeded the training targets by substantial amounts While taking on new (unplanned) requirements 1) training outside of Europe 2) training for systems administrators This required very demanding multi-computer facilities initially Identification of requirement for t-Infrastructure Development and provision of t-Infrastructure T-Infrastructure to support administrator courses which is now based on virtual machines Substantial repository of training resources Launch of eLearning for grids Spin off projects and new VOs committing effort to training The identified issues were: Maintaining quality while scaling the output. To be addressed by increased investment in QA for shared resources and by training trainers / MoUs with VOs and other projects Managing the larger structure in EGEE-II To be addressed by a federation model. The activities of a federation representative were discussed. Beyond EGEE-II we anticipate drawing more on national and regional resources. In collaboration with ICEAGE we resolved to prepare to support and develop the collaborative model for these, e.g. through e-IRG. Future meetings will be held under the aegis of EGEE-II Malcolm Atkinson
