CHARLOTTE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAZARDOUS MATERIAL PLACARDING GUIDELINES Red with White 6 – Inch Blue with White 6 - Inch Numeral Numeral Yellow with Black 6 - Inch White with Black Symbol Numeral (See below guidelines) This placard is representative of the general hazards of chemicals or materials that may be stored in a building or room, and is used to alert emergency responding personnel of the type and degree of hazard, based on the criteria indicated below. BLUE Diamond: This represents the health hazard of a material(s) on a scale of 1 to 4, with 4 being the highest. RED Diamond: This represents the flammability hazard of a material(s) on a scale of 1 to 4, with 4 being the highest. YELLOW Diamond: This represents the reactivity hazard of a material(s) on a scale of 1 to 4 with 4 being the highest. WHITE Diamond: This represents special hazards as follows: COR – Corrosives OXY – Oxygen or oxidizers POISON – Poisons W - Water reactive materials Radioactive materials EACH COLOR DIAMOND SHALL BE 12” X 12” IN SIZE, AND PLACARD SHALL BE POSTED ON BUILDING WHERE IT IS CLEARLY VISIBLE TO APPROACHING FIRE APPARATUS. ONLY DIAMONDS WITH A NUMBER OR SYMBOL REQUIRE POSTING.
