District 158 Education Foundation Awards $10k in Scholarships
ALGONQUIN, IL – Mr. Roger Schroepfer, District 158 Education Foundation Vice-President and Chair
of the Scholarship Committee, announced that the Board of Directors awarded ten $1,000 scholarships for
the 2014-15 academic year to graduating seniors from Huntley High School who will be moving on this Fall
to continue their education.
“Thanks to the generous support of the many contributors to and supporters of the Foundation, we were
able to award a total of $10,000 this year,” said Schroepfer. “We received 62 applications this year—a
record number. This made the process of selecting only 10 recipients very difficult.”
Committee members, Tina Drzal, Sara Mitchell, and Schroepfer each read through over 150 pages of
mostly handwritten essays and other information before narrowing the candidate pool down to 15 who
would move on to the interview phase of the process.
Award recipients were selected on the basis of academic merit, financial need, leadership roles, community
participation, and their commitment to higher education. Students may use their scholarship award to assist
with the cost of tuition, fees, books, or room and board.
