Background
Objectives of RA-07
• Review working methods and procedures, particularly of the
ITU-R Study Groups
– new and revised ITU-R Resolutions
• Establish SG work programme for next study period
– ITU-R Questions
• Establish structure of Study Groups
• Elect Chairmen and Vice-Chairmen of SGs, CPM, SC and
RAG
• Approve ITU-R Recommendations (in practice, by exception)
– revisions to Recommendations on IMT-2000

Results of RA-07 (2)
RA-07: new or revised Resolutions
of particular interest to GSC
• ITU-R 56: Naming for International Mobile telecommunications
• ITU-R 57: Principles for the process of development of IMTAdvanced
• ITU-R 53: The use of radiocommunications in disaster response
and relief
• ITU-R 55: ITU-R studies of disaster prediction, detection,
mitigation and relief
• ITU-R 54: Studies to achieve harmonization for short-range
radiocommunication devices (SRDs)
4
Challenges following RA-07
• Initiation of new study period with new Study Group structure
• Establishment of new Working Parties (and their Chairmen)
– particularly for SGs 4, 5 and 6
• Initiation of preparatory studies for WRC-11
– CPM11-1 held 19-20 November 2007
– Results published in Administrative Circular CA/171 (20 Dec. ‘07)
• Providing support for scheduled meetings

5
Next Steps/Actions
• IMT
– see separate presentation on “ITU-R Activities in IMT”
• Emergency communications and disaster relief
– see separate presentation on “ITU Activities for Emergency
Communications and Disaster Relief”
• SRDs
– studies to enable implementation of advanced technologies for
SRDs
– collect information on SRDs that use advanced spectrum access
and frequency tuning range techniques
– to facilitate the use of relevant frequency bands and/or tuning
ranges, preferably on a global or regional basis, suitable for SRDs
– note also Resolution 953 (WRC-07) on “Protection of
radiocommunication services from emissions by SRDs”
– WP 1A main group involved
