This paper develops a framework that examines how the types of alliance forms influence the knowledge diversity learned from those alliance relationships. Based on comprehensive literature, this paper puts forward propositions suggesting that alliance forms (institutional alliance, contractual alliance and intermediate alliance), which are classified according to the level of the integration of two partners` knowledge resources and the transaction specific investment to that relationship, can influence the level of knowledge diversity learned from that relationship. This paper additionally proposes that the alliance forms (institutional alliance, contractual alliance and intermediate alliance), which are classifies according to the level of the integration of two partners` knowledge resources and the transaction specific investment to that relationship, also influence the re-use (application) of that knowledge in its future business activities. Based on this contribution, future research can test the framework empirically to further develop the theory about alliance forms and knowledge diversity in alliances.
