Proceedings of 28th International Business Research Conference 8 - 9 September 2014, Novotel Barcelona City Hotel, Barcelona, Spain, ISBN: 978-1-922069-60-3 Devoloping Nuclear Energy Market: Case of Turkey Ali Duran Uzun* and İrfan Kalaycı** The First Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) was built by Russia in 1954 for using atom energy for purpose of trade. So, Nuclear Energy Market (NEM) was born. With improving techonology of NPP, “Nuclear Renaissance” was started by foremost USA, then Russia, France, England and Canada. Such as Germany, Japan and South Korea developed native projection of NPP. Today in 31 countries, 436 Nuclear Reactor has been operated with 373 504 MWe installed capacity, 71 is under construction. Turkey, its total energy requirements compensates for imports about % 72, depends on abroad at huge ratio. While Turkey’s electric requirements is annually about 245 billion kWh at the end of 2013, in 2023 it has been envisioned that It will be annually about 500 billion kWh. As taking consideration with existing energy potential Turkey, it has been able to make up for only half of this demand. Turkey has made a radical choice at “3-E” (EnergyEconomy-Environment) concept with various reasons. Even after The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) has been continued to be built. Countries obtaining energy as cheap, qualified and sustainable get front bench at competition of global trade and improvement. _____________________________________________________ *Ph.D.Cand.
