This review examines all criminal summonses issued in July 2011. Records were obtained from the
handwritten Summons Log provided by the magistrate. According to the log, 257 summonses were
issued during the period. Seventeen cases were excluded because a corresponding record could not be
found in either MCCJIS or ACIS.
The number of summons issued in 2011 varied significantly from month to month (range: 107 – 316),
averaging 224. According to the logs provided, approximately 2,691 summonses were issued.
July was selected and used exclusively for review on the basis that: 1) The annual record initially
provided was incomplete and, 2) Of the records provided initially, July contained the greatest number of
summonses. Upon receiving the balance of records, it was discovered the largest number of
summonses was issued June.
