Homeowners Firewood
Information Sheet 2010-2011
General Information
The Homeowners Firewood Program provides New Jersey residents with an inexpensive source of wood
to augment their firewood supplies as well as an outdoor recreational opportunity for many families
in the fall and winter months.
Reservations and Cutting
1. The cost of the permit for cutting firewood is $20 per cord and the fee is non-refundable. A cord is a
stack of wood, four feet by four feet by eight feet.
2. Firewood is available to the public on a reservation basis. Anyone interested in obtaining firewood
through this program should contact one of the participating areas to receive information regarding
wood availability and to reserve a two-day cutting period. Reservations can be made either in person
or over the telephone. Persons who arrive at an area without making reservations may be able to cut
wood, depending on wood availability and whether the maximum daily permit limit has been reached.
To avoid the possibility of not being allowed to cut wood, anyone interested should make reservations
prior to visiting participating areas.
3. Homeowners Firewood Permits are not transferable and there may be no substitutions of assigned dates.
Every effort will be made to assign month and days as requested, subject to the remaining available
dates at the time reservations are made.
4. Firewood permit applications must be completed at the State park or forest office prior to cutting
firewood.
5. If wood supply allows, there may be an opportunity to obtain up to a maximum of five cords during
the cutting season.
6. When all available firewood has been reserved or cut, further reservations will not be taken.
Additional Information
Permits for cutting firewood will be issued for a two-day cutting period. Participating areas will begin
accepting reservations for the two-day cutting periods in October. For further information about the
Homeowners Firewood Program or to reserve a cutting period, please call one of the participating
areas listed on the reverse side.
