The men and women of the CMPD are determined to “prevent the next crime”. Through a range of crime prevention, community intervention and enforcement strategies, the CMPD is working to reduce crime, increase safety, and develop proactive, long-term solutions to crime problems and challenges in our neighborhoods. Programs by Public Request Programs by Referral Only Anti-bullying - Respect for Others A one-hour workshop designed to educate youth about valuing and appreciating others, the dangers and consequences of bullying, and ways in which to prevent bullying. Adult Gang Education A one-hour workshop designed to educate participants about gangs in Charlotte and ways in which to prevent the growth of gangs. Youth Gang Resistance Training A one hour workshop designed to educate participants about the realities of gang life and introduce them to positive alternatives through local programs, services, and activities. The Community Services & Youth Division has designed a new model for its youth programs which strategically align these programs to complement each other and meet the vision, mission, and goal of the CMPD. Programs are managed by supervisors within the Division and include, but are not limited to Antibullying, Gang Education, Gang Resistance, Juvenile Diversion, Electronic Monitoring and Pre-Trial Services Intervention, Anti-bullying, and Social Networking - Keeping Kids Safe Online. Youth are required to attend one of four 8-hour diversion programs utilizing an interpersonal skills building model and emphasize various challenge areas faced by youth. Electronic Monitoring Intervention This program is implemented by referral only from the CMPD Electronic Monitoring Unit. Participation is voluntary. The 8-hour life skills program is designed to help youth improve decision making by use of reason over reaction. Pre-Trial Services Intervention This program is implemented by referral only from County Magistrates and/or District Court Judges to Pre-Trial Services. Participation is required. The 8-hour cognitive behavior program is designed to provide youth with internal control tools that lead to better decisionmaking. How Did I Get Here?
