CHAPTER EVALUATION AND ACCREDITATION PROGRAM

INTRODUCTION
The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life is responsible for evaluating, for chapter accreditation, all
recognized social or service fraternities and sororities at the end of the fall semester for the calendar year.
The evaluation will include a review of the respective chapter’s progress in the meeting the expectations
outlined in the Greek Pride Initiative: A Return to Glory as outlined in this document.
The Chapter Accreditation Program is a program established by the University; therefore, the officers of the
Multicultural Greek-Letter Council’s executive board are not responsible for the requirements and/or their
evaluation as outlined in this document.
EVALUATION AND ACCREDITATION RATINGS
Based on the evaluation, a chapter may receive an accreditation ranking as described below:
CHAPTER OF EXCELLENCE (250-310 POINTS): The chapter has exceeded the minimum expectations
of The Pennsylvania State University and the Greek Pride Initiative with regard to standards required of
social or service fraternities and sororities.
CHAPTER IN GOOD STANDING (153-249 POINTS): The chapter has satisfactorily achieved or
maintained all standards required of social or service Multicultural Greek-Letter Council chapter sororities.
CHAPTER IN POOR STANDING (0–152 POINTS): The chapter has failed to meet the minimum standards
required of social or service Multicultural Greek-Letter Council chapter sororities. The Office of Fraternity
and Sorority Life will outline the expectations a chapter must meet in order to fulfill the deficiency(ies) that
resulted in the poor standing. A Chapter in Poor Standing is prohibited from functioning as a recognized
student organization at The Pennsylvania State University.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION – PLEASE READ
1) A chapter may not use extra credit points to earn the Chapter of Excellence designation.
The chapter must earn this designation by completing the requirements outlined in this
evaluation.
2) In order to be eligible for the Chapter of Excellence designation, the chapter must fulfill
all of the REQUIRED items designation in this evaluation.
3) Chapters who are found responsible, by the Multicultural Greek-Letter Council judicial
board, for hazing, alcohol-related violations, or physical altercations may not be eligible
for the Chapter of Excellence designation regardless of the number of points the chapter
earns during the evaluation.
4) All directions provided in this document must be followed. The chapter may not modify
this application in any way. The chapter president should simply complete this
application in its entirety without changing the application’s font, size, formulas, colors,
etc. Ample space is provided throughout the document for the application to be
completed properly. If more space is needed, or if assistance is needed, the chapter

Certificate of Insurance on file with OFSL before the current Certificate of Insurance expires.
If OFSL is required to contact the chapter because their Certificate of Insurance has expired, the chapter will
have points deducted from this evaluation.

In order to fulfill the Chapter Sponsored Educational Programs 80% of the chapter’s membership must attend

must receive prior approval by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and the chapter’s Chapter Adviser to ensure
the topic will meet the requirements for this section.
Two (2) programs must be held during the spring 2015 semester and two programs during the fall 2015 semester. All

POINTS CALCULATIONS:
The points for each category are earned based on Average Dollars Earned Per Member. For example, at the end
of 2015, if a chapter has earned a total of $2,000 for philanthropy in Category Two, and the chapter has an average
membership roster between the spring 2015 and fall 2015 semesters of 80 members, the number of points earned
may be calculated as follows: $2,000 / 80 = $25.00 per member or 25 points.

MULTICULTURAL GREEK-LETTER COUNCIL INVOLVEMENT AND UNITY – REQUIRED
A total of 115 points can be earned in this section. In order to earn the points for this section, the chapter
will have had to accomplish the following expectations:
Part One – 30 Points: A chapter must participate, 80% attendance, in the activities, programs, and events
outlined in this section. Complete the required documentation for each activity, program, and event;
Part Two – 20 POINTS: A chapter must be represented at a minimum of 85% of all MGC delegate
meetings during the spring and fall semesters. This must be verified by the MGC Vice President for
Communications.
Part Three – 40 POINTS: A chapter must attend, 50% attendance, a Sponsored Educational Program
hosted by a minimum of two other fraternities and/or two other sororities during the spring and fall
semesters for a total of four programs for the year. Complete the required documentation for each activity,
program, and event. Name of the chapter who hosted the event must be included in detailed description;

EXTRA CREDIT POINTS – UP TO 80 POINTS
1. ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT:
10 Points
In order to be eligible for 10 extra credit points in this category, in addition to the cumulative GPA requirement, all
members must hold a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.
2. EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING:
25 Extra Points
In order to be eligible for 25 extra credit points in this category, the chapter must have completed the minimum
educational programming requirement in each semester. Extra credit will be earned if the chapter completes two
additional approved program in two of the six mandatory educational programming topics during the year.
3. CHAPTER MEMBERSHIP INCREASE:
10 Extra Points
In order to be eligible for extra credit points in this category, the chapter must have completed the necessary
intake forms. Extra credit will be earned if the total number of chapter members increases by fifty (50) percent or
more from January 2015 to December 2015. Increase will be determined finding the difference between the total
numbers, dividing the difference by the original number and multiplying by 100.
Ex: January: Chapter has 4 members. At the end of December the chapter has 6 members.
6-4=2. 2/4=0.5 Chapter has 50 percent membership increase.
