CV for Dr. James (Jim) T. Carlo Jim is the IEEE Standards Association President in 2004 and a member of the IEEE Board of Directors and IEEE Executive Committee. He was formerly IEEE Standards Board Chair and has participated in Networking and Communications Standards developments for twenty years. He is currently an independent communications systems engineer focusing on standards and patents after retiring from Texas Instruments (TI) where he worked for over 25 years. At TI, Jim was a TI Fellow and concentrated on networking design and the testing of various protocols of token ring, Ethernet, and DSL. Jim is the former chair of IEEE 802, former chair of ISO/IEC JTC1 SC6 Networking Standards, and has been active in worldwide standards developments, including DSL (with T1E1.4 and the ITU SG15). He is co-author of the book "Understanding Token Ring Standards and Protocols". He has given multiple seminars on LANs and has authored introductions for the ASCII book series in Japan. Jim has published over 35 papers and received seven patents."
