Korea Digital Cable Forum will support the speaker’s trip to Geneva. In this presentation, the transition status of digitisation of Cable TV and interactive services in Korea will be introduced. The US digital cable standard, so called, OpenCable standard has been selected for the national standard on April 2001. On March 2004, a Korean operator has declared that it has installed a working digital head end as well as set top boxes, completely conforming to the standard, first in the World. In 2003, the potential of HFC (Hybrid Fiber Coaxial) networks has been highly recognized by the Korean government for the convergence of broadcasting and telecommunication for the decade to come. In addition to TCommerce, the Korean government has declared to deploy T-Government by 2007. A telco has declared recently to use cable modems and networks in collaboration with local operators for its VoIP (Voice of IP) service nation wide. These new movements in Korea will be presented in detail.
