ITU-T Workshop “Mobile Telecommunications and Fixed/Mobile Convergence – the realities going forward” CV Kyiv, 12 – 14 September 2005 PAOLO ROSA ITU-T Session: 1.1: Opening Title of Presentation: ITU Standardization Activities in the New Telecommunication Environment Paolo received his degree in physics in 1974 and joined the R&D branch of the Italian Ministry of Communication working on optical fiber networks, on standards and leading quality control teams for subma rine links. He became head of the optical transmission department in 1981. He was head of delegation in national and international organizations for standardization and research studies such as IEC, CCITT (now ITU), ETSI, CECC, COST, moreover he acted as technical coordinator of the Italian Ministry of Communications and as Italian representative to the European Commission for the G7 pilot projects on the Information Society. In addition he was appointed as expert and senior advisor, for the Italian Foreign Office, UNDP and ITU in various developing countries. In 1997 Paolo joined ITU-T secretariat in Geneva as Counselor responsible for Study Groups 6, working on standards concerning the Outside plant, and SG 15 working on standards concerning Optical and other transport network. Since November 2004 he is the Head of the Standards Cooperation and Communication division of the ITU Standardization Sector, disseminating information and creating awareness about the standardization role of the ITU. He is author of several papers published in international technical magazines, and was speaker and lecturer in international conferences, seminars and workshops in the field of optical fibers, optical communication, access network.
