Whatcoursescanastudenttake?Anycoursethatcoincideswithandsupportsthe
student’sAcademic/CareerPlan,meetshighschoolgraduationrequirementsand
thatthestudentmeetstheperquisitesfor.Thecoursecannotbecomparabletoa
currentcourseofferedbytheschooldistrict.
Howdostudentsapply?StudentsmustapplytoYouthOptionsusingtheDPIYouth
OptionsProgramPlan&Report(FormPI‐8700A)indicatingcoursesinwhichto
enroll.DPIYouthOptionsProgramPlan&Reportformsshouldbeturnedintothe
schoolboardbythefollowingdeadlines:
ForcoursesstartinginFallSemester‐March1
ForCoursesstartingintheSpring/WinterSemester‐October1
AcceptanceandDenial:Uponhighschoolboardapproval,students(with
assistanceoftheircounselors)mustsubmitthefollowingtotheirLTCHighSchool
CareerCoach:
•SignedDPIYouthOptionsProgramPlan&Report(FormPI‐8700A)
•CompletedLTCYouthOptionsRegistrationForm
•Inapplicable,otherLTCforms(tobeprovidedbyLTC)
TheLTCHighSchoolCareerCoachwillregisterallYouthOptionsstudents.
Registrationinthecourse(s)willbecontingentoncourseavailability.Registration
willoccuronafirstcomefirstservebasisbasedonthereceiptdateofthecompleted
DPIYouthOptionsProgramPlan&ReportForm,LTCRegistrationform,andany
otherLTCformsrequiredfortherequestedcourse.
StudentswillberequiredtoattendanLTCOrientationsessionpriortoentryinto
LTCcourses.Attheorientationstudentsreceivetheirschedule,books,parking
permit,studentID,etc.
ScheduleandGrading:LTCwillsendaconfirmationletterandscheduletothe
student’shomeandtothehighschoolguidancecounselor.TheLTCHighSchool
Careercoachwillnotifytheresidentschooldistrictofthestudent’sfinalgrade.
TuitionandMaterials:LTCwillbilltheresidentschooldistrictthetuitioncostfor
thecourse(s)thestudentenrollsin.Thedistrictwillpaythecostoftuitionandfees,
unlessthestudentfailstocompleteorgetapassinggradeinthecourse.The
studentmayberequiredtoreimbursetheschooldistrictfortuitionandfeesifthe
studentdropsorfailsacourse.Astudentmustpayforanycoursetakenthatis
comparabletoacourseofferedattheschooldistrict.
StudentsaresentacoupontouseintheLTCbookstoretogettherequiredbooksfor
theenrolledcourses.Iftheschooldistrictcoversthecostofbooks,studentswillbe
responsibleforreturningthebook(s)tothehighschoolaftertheclass(s)areover.If
theschooldistrictdoesnotcoverthecostofbooks,studentswillberesponsiblefor
payingforthetextsandcandoastheywishwiththemafterthecourseiscomplete.
Tofindoutifaschooldistrictcoversthecostoftextbooksstudentsshouldcontact
theirHighSchoolGuidanceCounselor.
Whatarethestudent’sresponsibilities?
Ahighschoolstudentwill:

Whataretheparents’responsibilities?
Thestudent’sparent/guardianisresponsiblefor:
1. Thestudent’scompliancewiththecompulsoryschoolattendancelaw.A
YouthOptionsstudentmustremainenrolledinhighschool,evenifthe
studentchoosestoattendtechnicalcollegefull‐time.Ifthestudent
withdrawsorstopsattendingoneormoreLTCclass,thestudentmustreturn
tohighschoolforthatportionofthestudent’seducationaldayandcomply
withWisconsin’scompulsoryattendancelaw.
2. Thestudent’stransportationtoandfromthetechnicalcollege.The
parent/guardianofapupilwhoisattendingtechnicalcollegeandistakinga
course(s)forhighschoolcreditmayapplytoDPIforreimbursementifthe
parent/guardianisunabletopay.
3. Ifneeded,requestservicesfromLTC’sDisabilityServicesCoordinatorby
contactingyourLTCHighSchoolCareerCoachpriortothestartofthecourse.
WhatareLTCresponsibilities?
1. LTCwill:
a. Approveordenythestudentscourserequest,basedon:
i. Studenteligibility(pre‐requisitesmustbemet)
ii. Courseavailability
2. Sendacopyofthescheduletothestudentandschool.
3. Sendorientationinformationtothestudent.
4. Billtheschooldistrictthecostoftuitionandtextbooks*.
5. Notifythehighschoolofthegrade(s)thepupilreceived.
*Somehighschoolsdonotcoverthecostoftextbooks.Meetwithyourhighschool
guidancecounselortodiscusswhoisresponsibleforthiscost.
Whataretheresidentschoolboard’sresponsibilities?
Residentschoolboardwill:
1. Approveordenythestudent’sapplication,basedon:
a. IndividualizedEducationPlan
b. AcademicandCareerPlan
c. Highschoolgraduationrequirements
d. AcademicStanding
2. Paytuitionandfees.
StudentConduct
LakeshoreTechnicalCollegeisanadultlearningenvironment.Therefore,students
areexpectedtofollowthestudentcodeofconductlocatedintheStudentHandbook.
Allcourseworkiscollege‐level.Studentshaveanobligationtoconducttheir
academicworkaccordingtocollegestandards.CourseOptionsstudentsare
expectedto:
 Participateinclass.
 Attendclass,evenifthehighschooldistrictisnotinsession.
 Completehomeworkbyduedatesgivenbytheinstructors.
 Seekhelpfromtheinstructorifneeded.
 Keepinfrequentcontactwiththehighschoolcounselor.
 Ifneeded,seekhelpfromDisabilityServicespriortothestartofcourses.

The student has excelled in meeting all the compentencies established for the course.
The student has more than adequately met all the competencies established for the course.
The student has adequately met all compentcies established for the course.
The student has met the competencies, but no at an acceptable proficiency level established for the course.
The student has failed to meet one or more compentencies established for the course.
The student has withdrawn from the course ‐ grade is assigned as a registration function (not by the instructor). MostpostsecondaryinstitutionsrequireagradeofCorbetterwhen
evaluatingcourseworkfortransfer.StudentswhodonotearnagradeofC
orbetterinacoursemayneedtorepeatthecoursetomeetthe
requirementsofapostsecondaryinstitution.
AstudentmayobtainatranscriptoftheentireacademicrecordatLakeshore
TechnicalCollegebymakingawrittenrequesttotheRegistrar’sOffice.Transcript
Requestformsmustbecompletedinwriting.Theycannotbecompletedvia
telephone.

Attendance
Studentsareexpectedtoattendallclasses.Incaseofabsenceduetosicknessor
othercauses,itistheresponsibilityofthestudenttojustifyhis/herabsencetothe
instructorandarrangeforcompletionoftheclasswork.Wheneverpossible,
arrangementstomakeupworkshouldbemadeinadvanceoftheabsence.
Withdrawal(CourseAdd/Drop)Policy
Studentswhowishtoaddordropclasses,changesectionsofaclass,orwithdraw
fromLTCmustnotifytheirHighSchoolCareerCoachimmediatelyuponmakingthis
decisionandfollowtheofficialwithdrawalprocessasstatedintheStudent
Handbook.
Ifastudentdoesnotgothroughthecorrectprocessitispossiblethestudent
willreceiveafailinggradewhichwillaffectgradepointaverageandfuture
financialaideligibilityfollowinghighschoolgraduation.Ifastudentdoesnot
completetheofficialwithdrawalprocess,thehighschoolisresponsibleforthe
costofthecourseregardlessofthereasonforneedingtowithdraw.Not
attendingclassdoesnotautomaticallywithdrawastudent.
StudentRecords
TheFamilyEducationalRightsandPrivacyActof1974,asamended,governthe
releaseofinformationtothepublic.
Recordsarenotreleasedtoparentswithoutconsentofthestudent.Gradereports
areprintedattheendofeachterm.LakeshoreTechnicalCollege’sobligationisto
notifythehighschoolofthegrade(s)thepupilreceived.Parentsandstudents
shouldworkwiththehighschooltoobtaintheserecords.
AtLakeshoreTechnicalCollegenopersonshallbedeniedbenefits,excludedfrom
participationorsubjectedtodiscriminationbecauseofrace,color,religion,national
origin,ancestry,creed,sex,disability,arrestrecord,convictionrecord,age,veteran
status,membershipinNationalGuard,StateDefenseForceorotherreserve
componentofthemilitaryforcesofWisconsinortheUnitedStates,maritalstatus,
pregnancy,sexualorientation,politicalaffiliation,orparentalstatus.
