Postgraduate Careers Event Liam Fishwick raised the idea of running a careers event, similar to that run last year. An email is to be sent out in order to gauge interest among physics postgraduate and to determine what the students would like to see included in such an event. The idea of combining such an event with another group was raised. It was agreed that it should (potentially) be combined with Chemistry postgraduates, rather than physics undergraduates, so that the event is tailored specifically to postgraduates. It was noted that it is important to involve the careers service in the organisation of the event. One of the shortcomings of the previous event was that it was held a few days after the event run by the careers service and invited speakers didn’t want to attend two events in quick succession; Thus collaboration is important. 6. Next Meeting The next meeting will be on Friday 5th March 2010 at 12.30. WINDOW ON RESEARCH The new “Window on Research” programme of events brought to you by the Library’s Wolfson Research Exchange and the Learning and Development Centre will be launched this term with our first session entitled “WRAP: Warwick’s institutional repository” taking place on Wednesday 20th January from 12 until 2pm. These lunchtime sessions offer you the opportunity to find out more about key research taking place across campus as well as debating, discussing and sharing information on current research issues. WRAP WRAP is inviting all authors across the University of Warwick to save their own final versions of their journal articles after the peer review process (known as post‐prints or accepted versions) and to send these to WRAP through our submission form at: http://go.warwick.ac.uk/irsubmit Some of you might find that we will write to you individually, upon the publication of your journal article, to invite you to send us your article. We're monitoring alerts from Web of Science from a search by author affiliation so that we can prompt authors in this way. If you would like not to receive such e‐mails from us, please do let us know by e‐mailing wrap@warwick.ac.uk If you are curious to know more about WRAP or have any issues that you would like to raise in person, then you might like to attend the Window on Research event which will be held in the Wolfson Research Exchange 12‐2pm on 20th January. You can call in at any time between 12 and 2, to find out more about WRAP as a very informal session is planned, to be shaped around your questions. Physics PG SSLC Minutes January 2010 2
