Present: Senators Hughey, Knopp, Anderson, Fullmer, Holcombe, Johannes, Davis and Associate

Approval of March 6, 2012 minutes

Senator Fullmer moved to approve the minutes; Senator Holcombe seconded the motion. The
motion passed unanimously.
2. UHSections
 SectionAwassentbacktoFacultyAffairsCommitteefromFacultySenateforfurther
researchandreviewaboutthelegalnameoftheuniversity.SenatorHugheystatedthat
afterresearching,itwasdeterminedthatthenameiscorrectasisinSectionA.However,
thisadditionaltextthatstates:“hereafterknownasKansasStateUniversity”.Senator
Hugheyalsoreportedthatthelanguageusing“frontier”inSectionAwasdeleted.
o SenatorJohannesmovedtoapproveSectionAasrevised.SenatorAnderson
seconded.Themotionpassedunanimously.
 SectionBwillbevotedonatthenextFacultySenatemeeting(pendingapprovalby
ExecutiveCommitteethisweek).SenatorHugheyreportedthatwhilerevisingSectionC,
theUniversityHandbookCommitteenoticedthatthelanguageinSectionCregarding
electiontoFacultySenatewouldbebetterplacedwithinSectionBunderUniversity
Governance,makingitnumberedasB82.
o FACsenatorsdiscussedtheideaanddecidedtoaddinareferencetotheFaculty
Senateconstitutionwithahyperlinkratherthanrestatingdetailedinformation.
o SenatorJohannesmovedtoapproveSectionBwiththerevisiontobesentto
ExecutiveCommittee.SenatorHolcombesecondedthemotion.Themotionwas
passedunanimously.
 SectionCrevisionsbytheUniversityHandbookweresummarizedbySenatorHughey.
FACsenatorsdiscusseddifferentusesofspecificlanguage,grammar,andclarity.Senator
HugheyreportedonrecommendedlanguageadditionsgivenbySeniorViceProvostDyer
andDeans’CouncilregardingsubsectionC113.4thataddedclarification.
o SenatorJohannesmovedtoapproveSectionCanditsrevisionsasitistoday,
knowingthattherewillbeafewsmallchangesmadeyet(e.g.,renumberingof
sectionssothattheyaresequential).SenatorFullmersecondedthemotion.The
motionpassedunanimously.
 SectionDrevisionsarestillbeingfinalizedbytheUniversityHandbookCommittee.
SenatorHugheyreviewedtherevisionsmadeatthispointforFACsenators.

SenatorKnoppreportedthatworkgroupbeingledbySeniorVice‐ProvostDyerand
SenatorClarkisworkingwithsectionsC11–C13toanalyzeanddiscusspossible
professionaltitles.SenatorKnoppreportedthatatthispoint,theworkgrouphadbeen
researchingandexamininglike‐institutionsforpossiblelanguageandbudgetingideas.
OneinstitutionthatthegrouplikedwasVirginiaTech’slanguageregardinginstructors:
regular(fullorpart‐time)instructors,advancedinstructors,andseniorinstructors.The
workgroupwasalsoworkingwithtitleswithinextensionandaddingaprofessorsof
practicetitlewhichwouldrequirespecificlicensureorindustryexperience.
NewBusiness

AssociateProvostNiehoffremindedFACSenatorsoftheupcomingHLCaccreditationand
gavethesenatorsa“QuickGuide”handoutwithinformationsummarizedforuniversity
faculty,staff,andstudents.AssociateProvostNiehoffalsoaskedFACsenatorstoremind
colleaguestoattendtheforumforfacultywiththeHLCmemberswhowillbevisitingthe
campustheweekofApril8‐11(theforumwillbeheldatthesametimeastheFaculty
Senatemeetingthatweek).
