Contributions sent by E-mail or Ftp and displayed by secretary. Audio good enough for remote participant to hear all comments / questions. Step 2: Contributions can be presented using GoToMeeting (or equivalent) - visible to all participants and progressing / editing of document displayed. Audio good enough so that any remote participant is not disadvantaged. Speakers / questioners identified by name. Step 3: Documents and remote speaker both visible to all participants. All questioners appear on video. Step 4: Performance sufficient to do away with some face-to-face meetings. Build on current Webinars to include video as key element to see speaker and / or chairman as well as document. Step 5: Teleconference / multimedia telepresence using professional equipment. This document reports some techniques and some aspects to take into account during the evaluation of the possible reduction of energy consumption at equipment level and at installation level. The first version of this document refers principally at broadband equipment. TS 102 533 (2008-06): ”Measurement Methods and limits for Energy Consumption in Broadband Telecommunication Networks Equipment” This document establishes an energy consumption measurement method for broadband telecommunication network equipment; gives contributions to fix target energy consumption value for wired broadband equipment including ADSL and VDSL. Geneva, 13-16 July 2009 Fostering worldwide interoperability 10 ETSI Published Deliverables (2) EG 202 534 V1.1.3 (2007-07) “Human Factors (HF); Guidelines for real-time person-to-person communication services” This document provides guidelines for real-time person-to-person communication services. The guidelines are intended for persons working in network operator, equipment manufacturer, service provider and other organizations who may influence the development of services for end-users. This includes strategic planners, sales persons, customer support personnel and conference meeting facilitators. TR 102 531 (2007-04): “Better determination of equipment power and energy consumption for improved sizing” This document gives guidance on a more appropriate determination of equipment energy consumption with the goal to be able to realize a good design of power station and related power distribution network. A correct design helps to have a better energy efficiency of power station with impact on the energy saving and with a not oversized dimensioning of power network permits to reduce the use of material (cupper) and as consequence a minor impact on the environment and a cost reduction. Geneva, 13-16 July 2009 Fostering worldwide interoperability 11 ETSI Published Deliverables (3) EN 300 132-3 (2003-8): “Power supply interface at the input to telecommunications equipment; Part 3: Operated by rectified current source, alternating current source or direct current source up to 400 V”. This document standardizes a new power interface able to supply both telecom and ICT equipment. This solution permits to build only a power network, with backup, to supply energies at all types of equipment present in a data center without using UPS or AC/DC converters at 48 V so the global energetic efficiency of the entire system is greater than other solutions contributing and the energy saving. Geneva, 13-16 July 2009 Fostering worldwide interoperability 12 Active Work Items in ETSI (1) DTR/EE-00006: “Environmental Engineering (EE) Environmental consideration for equipment installed in outdoor location” This technical report provides guidelines on the applicability of ETSI environmental classes to equipment installed in outdoor cabinet. Also acoustics noise emission are considered. TS 102 706 (DTS/EE-00007): “Environmental Engineering (EE) Energy efficiency of wireless access network equipment” This work will establish wireless access network energy efficiency metrics, define efficiency parameters and measurement methods for wireless access network equipment. In the first phase GSM/EDGE, WCDMA/HSPA and WiMAX are addressed. Other systems, such as LTE, will be added when a stable system data is available. The draft is in approval process DTR/EE-00008: “Environmental Impact Assessment of ICT including the Positive Impact by using ICT Services” This work will define the methods to assess the environmental impacts of ICT, which have two aspects. i) Negative impact caused by the energy consumptions or CO2 emissions of operators of ICT equipments and sites including telecom network, users terminals, datacenters for residential and business services. Ii) Positive impact caused by energy saving or CO2 emission saving by using ICT services. We propose the method how to quantify such these impacts at national level. Geneva, 13-16 July 2009 Fostering worldwide interoperability 13 Active Work Items in ETSI (2) DES/EE-00014: LCA assessment of telecommunication equipment and service part 1: General definition and common requirement This document will establish a define methodology for the Life Cycle Analysis assessment of Telecommunication equipment and service including infrastructure. It will define rules for the functional unit selection, the system boundary selection and the allocation procedures, for different type of telecom services. The document will cover the assessments of telecommunication equipment and service and will be used by manufacturers and operators. The work will be based on existing international available standards from ISO and IEC e.g. (IEC/EN 62075) DES/EE-00015: Measurement method and limits for energy consumption in broadband telecommunications equipment; It will convert the existing TS 102 533 in an ES addressing the following items: MSAN equipment to be developed, complete GPON system (including in the system OLT and ONU/ONT), include the FTTH technology, set up and target value for equipment using more than one operating mode Geneva, 13-16 July 2009 Fostering worldwide interoperability 14 Active Work Items in ETSI (3) DTS/EE-00018 “Measurement methods and limits for Energy consumption of End-user Broadband equipment (CPE)” This WI was approved to cover the power consumption limits based on the European Code of Conduct of Power Consumption of Broad-Band Access equipment and will define the methodology and the tests conditions to measure the power consumption of end-user broadband equipment Following the publication of EU regulation 1275/2008 for the Off mode/Standby mode, this WI has been amended with the following scope: “Define metrics and targets for Customer premises networking equipment to guarantee a fair comparison of products in the same subclass of products at point in the network. The work will be taking in account the available specification in this area (e.g. European Code of Conduct., ATIS, HGI documents)” The amended WI is in approval process The test methodology and the tests conditions to measure the power consumption of end-user broadband equipment (CPE) are considered in a new WI (DEN/EN-00021) under is under the frame of the EU Mandate M/439 for the standardization in the field of standby and off-modes power consumption measurement of the Commission Regulation N° 1275/2008 RTR/EE-00019 “Reduction of energy consumption in telecommunications equipment and related infrastructure” This is the revision of the TR102530. This TR will be improved by adding methods to reduce diesel running time by using batteries and the strategy of monitoring of power consumptions will be extended. Geneva, 13-16 July 2009 Fostering worldwide interoperability 15 Active Work Items in ETSI (4) RTR/EE-00020 “The use of alternative energy solutions in telecommunication installations” This WI is the revision of the TR102532. This TR will be improved to include guidelines for the application of alternative energy solutions (both for powering and cooling) to telecommunication networks, based or real deployments and experience available up to now. The issue of disposal of waste materials and Life Cycle Analysis related to alternative energy solutions (e.g. batteries) will be developed. DEN/EE-00021 “Measurement methods for Energy consumption of End-user Broadband equipment (CPE)” This WI will define the methodology and the tests conditions to measure the power consumption of end-user broadband equipment (CPE) within the scope of EU regulation 1275/2008 The measurement method in off-mode and Standby-mode will be used to assess compliance with the Commission Regulation N° 1275/2008 under the frame of the EuP directive This EN is under the frame of the EU Mandate M/439 for the standardization in the field of standby and off-modes power consumption measurement of the Commission Regulation N° 1275/2008 Geneva, 13-16 July 2009 Fostering worldwide interoperability 16 Active Work Items in ETSI (5) DTR/EE-00011: TR 102 489 V02. “Thermal Management Guidance” (work item under formal approval phase) This new version of the TR introduces guidelines to increase the efficiency of the cooling system in data center and telecommunication center. A new installation layout is proposed to improve heat dissipation of equipment. DTR/EE-000XX: TR 102 489 V02. “Thermal Management Guidance” (work item under formal approval phase) This new version of the TR introduce some suggestions on how to increase the efficiency of the cooling system in data center and telecommunication center and for a new installation layout for favorite the dissipation of equipment. Geneva, 13-16 July 2009 Fostering worldwide interoperability 17 Active Work Items in ETSI (6) DTR/ATTM-06002: “Power Optimization for xDSL transceivers.” Possibilities to optimize the power consumption of the xDSL transceiver shall be investigated. These investigations may include power modes that are beyond the currently existing modes. The potential influence of power optimization schemes on the stability and performance of each line of the network due to power optimization, e.g. non-stationary noise, shall be an important part of the WI. The work has been done under the Specialist Task Force (STF) 362. The following deliverables have now been approved in the Working Group and sent for publication. This includes discussion of white-goods, as well as STB, CNG, IPTV, media-storage devices, WLAN Access Points, etc. It is expected that the protocols will allow remote access by users and/or the NGN service provider. Existing work from other fora will be considered, e.g. from HGI, ETSI EE, ETSI ATTM, and from EC Code of Conduct, etc. Geneva, 13-16 July 2009 Fostering worldwide interoperability 20 Active Work Items in ETSI (9) Specialist Task Force (STF) 354: ”Guidelines and Tutorials for Improving the User Experience of Real-time Communication Services” TR 102 643 (DTR/HF-00111); “Human Factors (HF); User experience requirements for real-time communication services” The work item shall evaluate existing user-centered guidelines and their dissemination for the development of real-time communication services. This includes EG 202 534 and the web-based system developed by STF 284 (DEG/HF-00062). The real-time services shall include person-to-person communication (e.g., multimedia conferencing, text communication) and person-machine interaction (e.g. machine avatars, mobile TV). Future requirements shall be derived from industry consultation and shall identify the priorities for new guideline data beyond that currently available. Recommendations shall be made that take into account the evolution of technologies, the development of user and market requirements and updates of the EC ICT Standardization Work Programme. EG 202 670 (DEG/HF-00112); “Human Factors (HF); Quality of Experience Guidelines for real-time communication services expressed in Quality of Service terms“ The main requirements for the work are documented in TR 102 535. The work item shall address results from DTR/HF-00061 and DEG/HF-00062 that could not be included in EG 202 534 because they were beyond its scope. In particular, case studies with target audiences identified requests for at least 75 candidate guidelines that could not be included in EG 202 534 because either there was no base data available or they concerned real-time person-to-machine communication rather than person-to-person communication. Therefore work shall be performed to collect base data (e.g. literature review and user tests) and include real-time person-to-machine communication services (e.g. media quality for mobile TV streaming, machine avatars). The work includes special user groups. For example, it is expected to include guidelines from ongoing work on the optimization of real-time text communication for people who are hearing impaired. In summary the work shall include: continuing contact with intended guideline users within industry for their requirements and feedback; identifying the set of guidelines that should be developed; monitoring published research findings for inclusion as guidelines; performing end-user studies to create guidelines; revising EG 202 534 as a new Guide. The guidelines shall be used to extend the webbased system initiated by DEG/HF-0062 and designed to be appropriate for key industry representatives (e.g. strategic planners, development engineers, customer support contacts, conference meeting facilitators). Geneva, 13-16 July 2009 Fostering worldwide interoperability 21 ETSI Liaisons (1) The following liaisons have been established from ETSI Technical Committee Environmental Engineering (EE) with other organizations working on eco-environmental topics: ITU-T SG 5 Liaison has been established with ITU-T Study Group 5 as this group will be in charge for the eco-environmental topics. ATIS NIPP Liaison has been received on the energy saving topics. TC-EE has replied to establish cooperation with ATIS on this subject. Home Gateway Initiative (HGI) Liaison has been received on the energy saving topics for CPE. TC-EE has accepted this cooperation. 3GPP, GSM Association and ETSI BRAN Liaison sent to these organizations for cooperation on the WI of energy efficiency of wireless access networks. Broadband Forum (BBF) Liaison received on 5 June 2009 for cooperation on energy efficiency of broadband equipment. This will be considered at the next EE chairman coordination meeting (17 June 2009).
