DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY STUDIES MSc Science, Technology and Society Students must complete 180 credits made of up the following: Compulsory modules HPSCGA01 Introduction to Science and Technology Studies (15 credits) Dissertation (90 credits) Three STS options (total of 45 credits) Students select three option modules from our STS catalogue. STS option modules: HPSCGA40 Science in the Twentieth Century and Beyond HPSCGA41 Science, Security, and Social Research HPSCGA42 Sociology of Science and Technology HPSCGA43 Curating the History of Science HPSCGA44 Science, Media, and Culture HPSCGA45 Practical Science Communication and Engagement HPSCGA46 Science, Technology, and Identity HPSCGA47 Responsible Science and Innovation HPSCGA59 Special Topics Seminar in STS Note: Not every STS module is taught every year, and these titles are subject to change. Some substitutions between STS and HPS options will be considered, subject to approval by the MSc Tutor Two electives modules (total of 30 credits) Up to 30 credits can be taken from STS modules or modules from other departments. • • These choices must be approved by the STS MSc Programme Tutor. Diploma Requirements: By the end of the degree, students must have completed no fewer than 45 credits among the modules HPSCGA40 – HPSCGA59. PG Certificate in Science, Technology and Society Students must complete 60 credits made up of the following: Core module HPSCGA01 Introduction to Science and Technology Studies Optional modules Students chose options from the HPSCGA catalogue. At least 2 modules (30 credits) must be from the STS modules Certificate Requirements: Students must complete 30 credits among the modules HPSCGA40 – HPSCGA59. 2
