RUNNING SAMPLES
1.
Prepare sample with a proper concentration (~3 mg/mL in THF). A minimum of 1 mL of polymer solution must be prepared. Polymer may need up to 1 hour to dissolve. Do not proceed to step
2 until polymer is completely dissolved.
2.
Filter the polymer solution using PTFE filter. Small solids and particles may clog the GPC.
EVERY SAMPLE THAT IS RUN ON THE GPC MUST BE FILTERED.
3.
Check flow rate, if not 1.0 mL/min, increase it to 1.0 mL/min.
4.
After at least 10 min, equilibrate the baseline at least 40 min (click the bottommost icon in running sample section).
5.
After stopping equilibration, purge system for at least 10 min (shift + 1).
6.
Press shift + 1 to stop purging and then press shift + 3 to stop solvent recycling
7.
Click the sample injection icon and fill your sample name in the pop-up.
8.
After you see the pop-up window, inject your sample and turn the injector from load position to injection position (turn the knob to the right).
9.
After ca . 1.5 – 2 min, turn the knob to the left and remove syringe.
WHEN THE RUN IS COMPLETE
10.
Press shift + 3 to return the solvent back to recycle. If nobody will use it, decrease flow rate to
0.1 mL/min.
In step 3, 4, and 5, the solvent should have been recycling (press shift + 3).
You do not need to repeat step 3, 4, 5, and 6, if you are not the first user on the day.
DATA WORK-UP
11.
In the “find data” section, open the “injection” section, and find your sample. Right click your sample name and choose “alter sample”; then alter the sample from unknown to broad unknown.
12.
Find your data in “result” section and analyze.
