OPEN CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS Are you interested in design, art, goods and exchange, material cultures from the local to the global or any other aspects of the material/visual past? Then you are invited to represent Warwick by sharing your original ideas with likeminded researchers half a world away! ‘Material and Visual Cultures’ Monash/Warwick Collaborative Post-Graduate Seminar 27April 2012 8.00 – 10.30 a.m. Room CMR1.1 University House, Warwick The School of Philosophical, Historical and International Studies, Monash University (Australia) and The Global History and Culture Centre at the University of Warwick are pleased to announce their second post-graduate seminar on ‘Material and Visual Cultures’. Made possible through the latest video conference technology, this collaborative encounter brings together students and staff from both institutions to share and explore approaches to the material\visual past. Three short research presentations by Warwick will represent the depth and diversity of Warwick-based scholarship in this area and serve as catalysts to roundtable-style discussion. The ‘Material and Visual Cultures’ seminar series is part of a groundbreaking joint Monash-Warwick venture recently featured in the Times Higher Education: http://www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/story.asp?storycode=418890 Places are available for presenters and respondents. Prospective participants must have current Warwick affiliation and a keen interest in the material/visual past or a openness to expanding their research into this exciting and multidisciplinary direction. General Information Original presentations of 10 – 12 minutes should develop a particular aspect of current research at Warwick to highlight specialist interests and provide a window into unique approaches to the material/visual past from the medieval to modern. Strong supporting visual evidence is recommended. Opportunities to participate are limited to 3 presenters and 10 respondents, so please contact the organisers as soon as possible.
