OPEN CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS
Are you interested in design, art, goods and exchange, material cultures from the
local to the global or any other aspects of the material/visual past?
Then you are invited to represent Warwick by sharing your original ideas with
likeminded researchers half a world away!
‘Material and Visual Cultures’
Monash/Warwick Collaborative Post-Graduate Seminar
27April 2012
8.00 – 10.30 a.m.
Room CMR1.1
University House, Warwick
The School of Philosophical, Historical and International Studies, Monash University
(Australia) and The Global History and Culture Centre at the University of Warwick
are pleased to announce their second post-graduate seminar on ‘Material and Visual
Cultures’. Made possible through the latest video conference technology, this
collaborative encounter brings together students and staff from both institutions to
share and explore approaches to the material\visual past. Three short research
presentations by Warwick will represent the depth and diversity of Warwick-based
scholarship in this area and serve as catalysts to roundtable-style discussion.
The ‘Material and Visual Cultures’ seminar series is part of a groundbreaking joint
Monash-Warwick venture recently featured in the Times Higher Education:
http://www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/story.asp?storycode=418890
Places are available for presenters and respondents. Prospective participants must
have current Warwick affiliation and a keen interest in the material/visual past or a
openness to expanding their research into this exciting and multidisciplinary
direction.
General Information
Original presentations of 10 – 12 minutes should develop a particular aspect of
current research at Warwick to highlight specialist interests and provide a window
into unique approaches to the material/visual past from the medieval to modern.
Strong supporting visual evidence is recommended.
Opportunities to participate are limited to 3 presenters and 10 respondents, so please
contact the organisers as soon as possible. Presentation proposal and/or brief bios
must be submitted before 17 April!
Further information and programme from the 2011 seminar can be found on the
