Areas of Practice
Dan Kittle focuses on business litigation with a particular emphasis on state and local tax disputes.
His experience includes matters ranging from the proper classification of business activities under
Washington state’s B&O tax to Commerce Clause limitations on state taxation, as well as shareholder
agreement disputes, breach of fiduciary duty claims, claims arising out of mergers and acquisitions,
lender liability lawsuits and complex commercial contract disputes. Dan also provides litigation
risk assessment for proposed mergers, stock sales, asset sales and other business transactions. As
a member of Lane Powell’s Strategic Action Team, Dan is actively involved in implementing the
Firm’s long-term Strategic Plan, where he focuses on providing dynamic client service and increasing
innovative collaboration.
In 2015, Dan was selected as one of eleven state-wide future business leaders in the 2015-16 class
of Leadership Washington with the Association of Washington Business Institute. He is also an
Assistant Editor and Columnist with the Journal of Multistate Taxation and Incentives, as well as
the Chair of the Financial Services Subcommittee for the American Bar Association’s State and
Local Tax Committee. He serves on the Board of Directors for the American Red Cross (King
County Chapter) and on the Advisory Council for Leadership Launch, a Mukilteo-based nonprofit
organization. Prior to law school, Dan served as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in the Kyrgyz
Republic, where he lived and worked as a teacher, basketball coach and grant writer in a small rural
village.
