GENERAL PURPOSE:
This policy is intended to provide a process and procedure that will insure the fair and
equitable distribution of defined scholarship funds and/or materials as they may be
available to Michigan Resident students who have registered in one of MJI’s Judaic
Studies programs.
BACKGROUND/POLICY:
It is the policy of MJI that this policy and procedure be administered fairly, uniformly and
consistently to Judaic Studies students seeking Bachelors of Applied Sciences degrees.
Eligibility for continuing scholarships will be dependent on meeting current Satisfactory
Academic Progress (SAP) norms as published annually in the MJI Academic Catalog.
PROCESS:
In preparation for each new academic year, MJI may identify or otherwise obtain certain
monies for the provision of scholarship funds and materials to students accepted into or
continuing to study in one or more of MJI’s Judaic Studies (JS) concentrations.
All JS scholarships are awarded after an evaluation of several financial need indicators
including access to other scholarship programs and financial aid and on a “first come
– first served” basis until the JS scholarship funds and materials identified for the year
are exhausted.
At the time this policy was created, MJI determined that a full JS scholarship for JS
declared students would be arrayed for those students taking a minimum of six
credits each semester as follows:
1. Tuition Grants: Each semester of the scholarship award and until exhausted by
a first come first served basis, the first third (33.33%) of all tuitions remaining and
due (after all other awards and aid have been applied) will be paid for via the JS

scholarship fund.
2. Tuition Deferment: Each semester of the scholarship award and until
exhausted by a first come first serve basis, the second 33.33% of all tuitions due
after any other financial aid is applied will be deferred, interest free, to JS
students by the JS scholarship fund. If at any time before graduation any JS
student severs their academic relationship with MJI, these deferments will be
indefinitely placed in an inactive account. Contra wise,
If at any time during the current matriculation or future MJI matriculations the
student is qualified for and applies for the awarding of the MJI BAS degree, the
student will be obligated to pay the deferred amounts owing. Students whose
financial circumstances change and therefore wishing to pay of all or part of
these deferments prior to graduation may do so with no penalty. No degree will
be awarded and no official transcripts will be issued until these deferments
are fully paid.
3. Student Tuition Obligations: Students awarded JS scholarships will be
responsible for payment of the final 33.33% of tuition balances and any
necessary course materials, such as textbooks. Students are expected to
register for courses and pay this amount before their scholarship application will
be considered. Should a student withdraw entirely from the program before the
first day of classes, any tuition paid by the student will be fully refunded.
Thereafter, refunds will be determined by the refund policy described in the
current MJI Academic Catalog.
