International Cooperation Activity (Pilot Project) ■1-1. APT Pilot Project to support the Development of Telecommunication in Developing Countries (Utilizing budget of International Organization ) Participate in ICT Human Resource Development Program, which is based on the extra budgetary contribution from Japanese Government to APT (Asia Pacific Tele-community) * Carry out experiments of e-medicine / e-education in some rural areas of developing countries, constructing a network with Wireless LAN System developed by KDDI R&D Labs. Proposals from KDDI have been adopted for 5 consecutive years. (Work together with local organization, Waseda University.) [aim] ・Demonstrate the applicability of Wireless LAN System (CFO-SS) in rural areas of developing countries, Show the possibility of improvement in the quality of life (bridging the digital divide) by ICT in developing countries ・ Expansion and Development of usage in the wider areas from a pilot project are expected *APT:International Organization in the field of telecommunication of Asia Pacific Area. International Cooperation Activity(Int’l Organization) ■ Activity of International Organization related to Development [Activity] Introduce the KDDI’s activities toward bridging digital divide, in the international organization related to telecommunication development. Share the knowledge of KDDI’s technologies / know-how with developing countries for their smooth development of telecommunications. Rise the presence of KDDI in international society. ・ITU-D(International Telecommunication Union –Development Sector) Questions which match with KDDI’s business, and the field of which KDDI can strongly contribute. Q10(Telecommunications for rural and remote areas) Q14(Telecommunications for e-health) Q18(Implementation aspects of IMT-2000 and information-sharing on systems beyond IMT-2000 ) Concentrate on the activities on the questions above, and make the result of conference contribute to smooth development of telecommunications in developing countries. High gain directive antenna Through SG meeting, ADF* and work shop, share the results of APT Projects together, contribute to the development of telecommunication in Asia Pacific area. * Asia Pacific Telecommunication and ICT Development Forum PocketMIMAS Transmission speed:10 Mbit/s Antenna cable ・APT(Asia Pacific Tele-Community) High gain directive antenna 2. 4 GHz band Antenna cable Out-door unit Out-door unit IF cable Serial cable CFO-SS 10A IF cable In-door unit and Power supply Serial cable CFO-SS 10A 10/100 Base-T 10/100 Base-T ミニコンピュータ ミニコンピュータ CFO-SS 9 Questions under ITU-D Study Group 2 No. Question 9 Identification of study topics in the ITU-T and ITU-R study groups which are of particular interest to developing countries 10 Telecommunications for rural and remote areas 11 Examination of terrestrial digital sound and television broadcasting technologies and systems, including cost/benefit analyses, interoperability of digital terrestrial systems with existing analogue networks, and methods of migration from analogue terrestrial techniques to digital techniques 14 Telecommunications for e-health 17 Progress on activities for e-services/applications in the world 18 Implementation aspects of IMT-2000 and information-sharing on systems beyond IMT-2000 for developing countries 19 Strategy for migration from existing networks to next-generation networks for developing countries 20 Examination of access technologies for broadband telecommunications 22 Utilization of ICT for disaster management and active and passive space-based sensing systems as they apply to disaster prediction, detection and mitigation Resolution 9 Participation of countries, particularly developing countries, in spectrum management 10 3. International Cooperation Activity (Training program for foreign trainees from developing countries) As part of “Technology Transfer” to developing countries, KDDI is carrying out training programs of telecommunication technologies based on Japanese Government programs. [Purpose / Result of Training Program] ・ Improvement of Technology through “Technology Transfer” toward developing countries. (Direct contribution to developing countries) ・Establish Personal Connections with KDDI, and make pro-KDDI. 11 3. International Cooperation Activity(Training Program) ■ Execution of Training Program, Various Information obtained through foreign trainees, Good use of Personal Connections [Achievements] ・Number of foreign trainees (fiscal year 2006) :50 trainees / 7 training programs Person 200 100 ・Provide the trainees with KDDI’s technical information. ・Get latest information on market environment, telecommunication carriers of respective countries from foreign trainees. Year1957 1984 2006 * KDDI’s training program has been held since 1957. (Reference) : Past record of trainees ・Country Report meeting (1957-2006:total over 5,300 persons) 12 3.
