Program Highlights
“School At Work has given me more confidence in the work that I do, and also motivated me to go
back to college.”— UCDHS SAW Graduate
As part of the UC Davis Health System's commitment to career development and succession
planning, Training & Development is now accepting applications through May 25 for this year’s
School at Work (SAW) Program. Now in its tenth year at UCDHS, this six-month program was
specifically developed for health-care facilities with a primary focus of providing entry-level
employees opportunities for career advancement and continuing education.
This year’s SAW program will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. every Wednesday beginning
July 6, 2016, to graduation on January 4, 2017. The weekly SAW sessions include 2.5 hours of
mandatory class attendance and an additional 2 hours per week of self-study during nonworking
hours. During facilitator-led class sessions, students will participate in discussions, interactive
online exercises and computer based coursework. SAW program topics include:



Workplace applications of reading, writing, grammar and math
Healthcare and medical terminology
Career development and mastering workplace competencies
“School At Work (SAW) helped me start to realize what I want to do. The SAW program is a big
help and even if someone isn’t going back to school they still will benefit from SAW. It gives you a
refreshed look on things you do every day, and educates and steers you in a direction when it
comes to customer service, patients, their family members and even staff.” – UCDHS SAW Graduate
