California Regional Extension Centers
Regional Extension Centers (RECs) are non-profit organizations funded by the HITECH act, which
offer programs and services designed to help clinical providers transition from paper-based practices
to electronic health records.
California Health Information Partnership and Services Organization (CalHIPSO) is a not-forprofit joint venture between the California Primary Care Association (CPCA), the California Medical
Association (CMA) and the California Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems (CAPH).
CalHIPSO helps providers in California navigate the complicated world of electronic health record
adoption and meaningful use.
Health Information Technology Extension Center for Los Angeles County (HITEC-LA) is
dedicated to helping Los Angeles County health care providers implement and meaningfully use
electronic health records (EHRs) by providing high quality, personalized technical assistance.
CalOptima Regional Extension Center (COREC) provides subsidized technical assistance to
eligible Orange County providers in selecting, implementing, and achieving meaningful use of an
electronic health record (EHR)
The American Indian/Alaska Native National Regional Extension Center (AIAN REC) for
California Tribal and Urban Health Programs is housed at the California Rural Indian Health
Board (CRIHB) in Sacramento, CA. The AI/AN National REC - CA will work with both commercial
off-the shelf (COTS) and Resource Patient Management System (RPMS) EHR users in California to
support them in adopting, implementing, or upgrading to a certified EHR and provide them with
supplemental resources and guidance to achieve Meaningful Use.
California Telehealth Resource Center (CTRC)
CTRC produces guides and materials that incorporate best practices in telehealth to meet the needs of
a variety of telemedicine programs. These publications provide practical guidance, tool and templates
and are designed to support the Seven Step Program Development process. CTRC is nationally
recognized as one of six federally designated Telehealth Resource Centers (TRCs) around the

Center for Connected Health Policy
The Center for Connected Health Policy (CCHP) is a non-profit planning and strategy organization
working to integrate telehealth technologies into California's health care system.
Center for Health and Technology – Telehealth Education Program
The UC Davis Health System Center for Health and Technology (CHT) has developed a curriculum
that embraces a multidisciplinary approach while incorporating discussion, lecture and hands-on
training. A one-day Executive Overview and a two-day Telemedicine Course are offered throughout
the year.

The office of Continuing Medical Education at UC Davis Health System offers physicians and other
health-care professionals educational opportunities that foster excellence in patient care. For free

ExploreHealth
ExploreHealth web portal developed in partnership with UC Davis Health System and the UC
Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) to provide Californians in traditionally
underserved areas with reliable and up-to-date online consumer health information and tools. To enter

Health Informatics Education
As information technology becomes more integral to health care, the demand for health professionals
who can fully utilize and add value to clinical and public health data is growing. The UC Davis
Health Informatics Program provides graduate and certificate level programs for preparing
professionals to work in data rich environments.
Infopeople
Infopeople functions as the training arm for the California State Library. Trainings are open to all
members of the California library community - academic, public, school, and special. Six, self-paced
online modules to help librarians and library staff increase their knowledge to provide outstanding
consumer health services and extend the role of the library with regard to building healthy
communities can be accessed here.
National School of Applied Telehealth
The National School of Applied TeleHealth (NSAT) provides healthcare information and education
for providers and consumers through the development of a virtual “School for Applied
Telehealth”. NSAT certification courses will teach the essentials of TeleHealth and prepare
individuals to become valuable members of a Telemedicine Team.
