Currently posted Internal Deadlines: http://www.kstate.edu/research/funding/bulletins/ bul12/limits12/index.htm GENERAL 24-1 Research Experiences for Undergraduates (NSF) The Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program supports active research participation by undergraduate students in any of the areas of research funded by the National Science Foundation. REU projects involve students in meaningful ways in ongoing research programs or in research projects specifically designed for the REU program. This solicitation features two mechanisms for support of student research: 1) REU Sites are based on independent proposals to initiate and conduct projects that engage a number of students in research. REU Sites may be based in a single discipline or academic department or may offer interdisciplinary or multi-department research opportunities with a coherent intellectual theme. Proposals with an international dimension are welcome. 2) REU Supplements may be included as a component of proposals for new or renewal NSF grants or cooperative agreements or may be requested for ongoing NSF-funded research projects. Undergraduate student participants in either REU Sites or REU Supplements must be U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or permanent residents of the United States.NSF 12-569 Vol. 21, No. 24 (GG 6/18/12) URL: http://nsf.gov/pubs/2012/ nsf12569/nsf12569.htm Deadline: 9/12/2012, Antarctica 5/24/ 2013 substantial preservation concerns; 3) Documentary Heritage; 4) Retrospective Conversion of Descriptive Information. ACCESS-201210 (GG 6/1/12) URL: http://www07.grants.gov/ Deadline: 10/4/2012 24-2 Arctic SEES (ArcSEES) Science, Engineering, and Education for Sustainability (NSF) ArcSEES is a multi-year, interdisciplinary program which seeks both fundamental research that improves our ability to evaluate the sustainability of the Arctic human-environmental system as well as integrated efforts which will provide community-relevant sustainability pathways and engineering solutions. For this competition, interdisciplinary research will be focused in four thematic areas: the natural and living environment, the built environment, natural resource development, and governance. ArcSEES plans to support fundamental, pilot efforts and larger, outcomes-relevant research. All proposers are required to provide context for how the project advances science for sustainability and to identify the communities and real-world scenarios to which the research products are relevant. While community-based participatory research projects that engage Arctic resident and indigenous populations in the conception and implementation of the research are encouraged, ArcSEES also welcomes activities that entrain other classes of stakeholders and facilitate education through participation of tribal colleges and minorityserving institutions. Projects should expand our understanding of the American past by facilitating and enhancing access to primary source materials. The Commission will support such activities as establishing archives programs, processing archival collections at the basic or detailed levels, surveying and accessioning archival records, and converting existing archival collection finding aids to new online formats. Applicants may submit proposals for one or any combination of the following four project categories. Categories1. Basic Processing Proposals; 2) Detailed Processing for collections with proven high research demand or EDUCATION 24-4 Personnel Development To Improve Services and Results for Children With Disabilities: Early Childhood Personnel Center (ED) The purposes of this program are to 1) help address State-identified needs for highly qualified personnel in special education, related services, early intervention, and regular education to work with infants, toddlers, and children with disabilities; and 2) ensure that those personnel have the necessary skills and knowledge, derived from practices that have been determined through scientifically based research and experience, to be successful in serving those children. The priority is one or more highquality projects that are designed to develop and implement, or expand, initiatives in arts education and arts integration on a national level for prekindergartenthrough-grade-12 children and youth, with special emphasis on serving children from low-income families and children with disabilities. In order to meet this priority, an applicant must demonstrate that the project for which it seeks funding will provide services and develop initiatives in multiple schools and school districts throughout the country, including in at least one urban, at least one rural, and at least one high-need community. CCIs are agile structures that can respond rapidly to emerging opportunities and make full use of cyberinfrastructure to enhance collaborations. CCIs may partner with researchers from industry, government laboratories and international organizations. CCIs integrate research, innovation, education, and informal science communication and include a plan to broaden participation of underrepresented groups. The CCI program is a two-phase program. Phase I CCIs receive significant resources to develop the science and integrative elements of a CCI before requesting Phase II funding. Only one proposal per eligible PI is allowed. The first choice, Technology Translation, encourages the translation of technologically-promising research discoveries made by prior and/or current NSF-funded investigators toward a path of commercialization; while the second choice, Research Alliance, promotes synergistic collaborations between an existing NSFfunded research alliance (including consortia such as Engineering Research Centers, Industry University Cooperative Research Centers, Science and Technology Centers, Nanoscale Science and Engineering Centers, Materials Research Science and Engineering Centers, Centers for Chemical Innovation, and Emerging Frontiers in Research and Innovation grantees) and other public and private entities to motivate the translation and transfer of research discoveries into innovative technologies and commercial reality. A PI may submit to PFI: AIR Technology Translation or PFI: AIR Research Alliance, but NOT both. This FOA seeks applications that leverage and integrate information from large, meta-omic data sets to guide studies that identify critical microbial activities that can be mechanistically linked to GI carcinogenesis. Applicants may draw from existing large data sets, and may also propose to generate appropriate new data, including but not limited to data from both gene and protein analysis, such as DNA sequence and copy number, post-translational modifications, secreted signals, and protein-protein interaction data between host factors and individual microbial species, or communities of microbes.
