applications will be submitted. Dr. Jim
Guikema, Associate Vice President for
Research, is the internal coordinator for
limited submission programs. Please
notify him at 785-532-6195, email:
guikema@ksu.edu, by the Internal due

33-3 Bridges to the Doctorate
Program (R25) (NIH)
This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) issued by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences
(NIGMS), National Institutes of Health
(NIH), encourages Research Education
Grant (R25) applications from institutions that propose to increase the pool of
master’s degree students from underrepresented backgrounds who go on to
research careers in the biomedical and
behavioral sciences, and who are trained
and available to participate in NIHfunded research. This initiative promotes
partnerships/consortia between colleges
or universities granting a terminal master’s degree with institutions that offer
the doctorate degree. The program
expects that the joint efforts of doctorate
degree-granting and master’s degreegranting institutions will foster the development of a well-integrated institutional
program that will provide students with
the necessary academic preparation and
skills to enable their transition and successful completion of the Ph.D. degree in
biomedical and behavioral sciences.
Only one application per institution is
allowed. PAR-12-276 (NIHG 8/31/12)

33-4 2013 NIH Director’s New
Innovator Award Program (DP2)
(NIH)
The NIH Director’s New Innovator
(DP2) Award initiative was created in
2007 to support a small number of early
stage investigators of exceptional creativity who propose bold and highly
innovative new research approaches that
have the potential to produce a major
impact on broad, important problems in
biomedical and behavioral research. The
New Innovator Awards complement
ongoing efforts by NIH and its Institutes
and Centers to fund early stage investigators through R01 grants, which continue
to be the major sources of NIH support
for early stage investigators. RFA-RM12-016 (NIHG 8/10/12)

SOCIAL SCIENCES
33-12 Basic Behavioral Research on
Multisensory Processing (R21) (NIH)
This Funding Opportunity Announcement
(FOA), issued as part of the NIH Basic
Behavioral and Social Sciences Opportunity Network (OppNet), is intended to
support basic behavioral research projects
focused on two or more sensory modalities. This includes research examining
ways in which cognitive or affective processes interact with multisensory input to
influence basic behavioral targets. While
evidence suggests that sensory input is
processed interactively instead of additively, research is less developed regarding how different modalities are
integrated for perception and behavioral
or social outcomes. RFA-EY-13-001
