43-1 Integrated Assessment of
Greenhouse Gases and Climate Impacts
(EPA)
This notice announces the availability of funds and solicits proposals to advance comprehensive, integrated modeling and assessment of multiple greenhouse gases

43-2 Technologies for Healthy
Independent Living (R01) (NIH)
This FOA issued by the National Institutes of Health encourages Research Project
Grant (R01) applications for research and development of technologies that monitor health or deliver care in a real-time, accessible, effective, and minimally obtrusive way. These systems are expected to integrate, process, analyze, communicate, and present data so that the individuals are engaged and empowered in their own healthcare with reduced burden to care providers. The development of these technology systems has the potential to significantly improve the quality of life for people with disabilities, people aging with mild impairments, as well as individuals with chronic conditions. 43-5 Poetry Grants (Bynner)
Through a bequest from Witter Bynner in
1972, The Witter Bynner Foundation for
Poetry perpetuates the art of poetry. The foundation promotes poetry in American culture and encourages grant proposals that expand awareness of the positive effects of poetry on society. (TGA 9/

43-3 Land-Cover and Land-Use
Change (NASA)
This solicitation is focused on two major themes: 1) Synthesis of prior Land Use and Land Cover Change studies and 2)
Vulnerability, Impacts, and Adaptation
(VIA), as related to climate interactions with land-use changes around the world, for example addressing the vulnerability of current land use systems and related social systems and their adaptability to climate variability and change and other major global stressors. Amendment 5 narrows down the VIA theme to a single land-cover type—wetlands—and adds emphasis to the social science component of this program element for both
Synthesis and VIA themes. For a proposal to be competitive, it must include a social science component., Note that the remote sensing component is a necessary attribute for each proposal.

43-4 Centers for Agricultural Disease and Injury Research, Education, and
Prevention (CDC)
NIOSH is encouraging applications from qualified organizations for Centers of
Excellence in Agricultural Disease and
Injury Research, Education, and Prevention (Ag Centers). These centers will conduct high quality research and help translate scientific discoveries into practical applications to improve worker safety and health. Center structure should take advantage of diverse scientific resources and focus on local, regional and national issues. Center functions should include developing holistic approaches that link prevention, intervention, translation, outreach, education, and evaluation. Applicant institutions may submit only one proposal. PAR-11-

43-7 Talent Search (TS) Program
(ED)
The purpose of the TS Program is to identify qualified individuals with potential for education at the postsecondary level and encourage them to complete secondary school and undertake a program of postsecondary education. TS projects publicize the availability of, and facilitate the application for, student financial assistance for persons who seek to pursue postsecondary education and encourage persons who have not completed programs at the secondary or postsecondary level to enter or reenter and complete these programs. The Secretary encourages applicants to propose projects that provide services to students enrolled in schools that are not currently being served by a Talent Search project, especially schools that the State has identified as the persistently lowest-achieving schools.

43-8 Innovative Bioavailability Assays to Assess the Effectiveness of
Contaminated Sediment Remediation
(NIH)
The National Institute of Environmental
Health Sciences (NIEHS) invites qualified investigators from domestic institutions of higher education to submit an application for a Superfund Research Program (SRP) Individual Research Project
Grant (R01). This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) encourages the research community to develop innovative bioavailability assays to determine the effectiveness of contaminated sediment remediation. RFA-ES-11-005

43-11 Tumor Microenvironment
Network (TMEN) (U54) (NIH)
This Funding Opportunity Announcement
(FOA) is designed to promote research on tumor microenvironment with the focus on understanding the role of host stroma in the tumorigenesis and responses to treatment. Through this FOA, the
National Cancer Institute (NCI) and
National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) invite cooperative agreement applications from groups of investigators interested in forming
Research Centers serving as components of an interactive NCI Tumor Microenvironment Network (TMEN). The main scientific objectives of TMEN are: 1) to generate a comprehensive understanding of composition of the stroma in normal tissues as well as its roles in tumor initiation, progression, and metastasis; 2) to delineate mechanism of tumor-stroma interactions in human cancer; and 3) to identify the mechanism(s) by which tumor stroma may affect responses to treatment. 43-12 Occupational Safety and Health
Training Project Grants (T03) (CDC)
The National Institute for Occupational
Safety and Health (NIOSH)/Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) invites grant applications for Training
Project Grants (TPG) that are focused on occupational safety and health training and on research training. NIOSH is mandated to provide an adequate supply of qualified personnel to carry out the purposes of the Occupational Safety and
Health Act of 1970 (pub. L. 91-596, 84
Stat. 1590), and the TPGs are one of the principal means for meeting this mandate.
TPGs are programs at institutions that provide training in the core occupational safety and health areas of industrial hygiene (IH), occupational health nursing (OHN), occupational medicine residency (OMR), occupational safety (OS), as well as other closely related occupational safety and health (OSH) fields.
Applicants proposing training programs in allied disciplines closely related to
OSH must contact the program administrator identified in this announcement to discuss the concept and its relevance to
OSH training program priorities. PAR-10-

43-13 Coins for Alzheimer’s Research
(AFAR)
The CART (Coins for Alzheimer’s
Research Trust) Fund encourages exploratory and developmental Alzheimer’s
Research projects within the United
States by providing support for the early and conceptual plans of projects that may not yet be supported by extensive preliminary data but that have the potential to substantially advance biomedical research. The fund is support by Rotary clubs with assistance from the American
Federation of Aging Research. Research proposals should be distinct from projects designed to increase knowledge in a well established area unless they are meant to extend previous discoveries toward new directions or applications. (PND 8/11/10)
