The focus of these collaborative groups should be to provide new knowledge about how public officials, firms in the private sector, other groups, and/or individuals can incorporate existing knowledge about climate change and related long-term environmental risks into their decisions. In addition to generating societally useful information and tools, DMUU collaborative groups should enhance basic understanding within and across the social and behavioral sciences as well as related science and engineering disciplines. While many service program are available in this country, human service systems often fail to meet the diverse needs of an individual with developmental disabilities and his or her family. A family may need several services, and many human service systems address primarily one need, such as health, education, or employment. These systems usually focus on one individual, not the person and his or her family. Military families usually navigate two systems- civilian and military. Family Support 360 Centers empower and strengthen families. Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to contact NIMH Program Staff before submitting a RAPID application to determine whether or not the proposed work meets the guidelines of this program, whether requested RAPID funding is likely to be available, and whether the idea should be considered for initial submission as a fully developed application. The RAPID grants described in this funding opportunity announcement are designed to provide a limited sum of money for early assessment to investigators who intend to follow up with a full research application, using the preliminary data from this initial effort as a basis for their larger application. This FOA will utilize the NIH Small Grant (R03) award mechanism and runs in parallel with an FOA of identical scientific scope, PAR-09-172, that solicits applications under the Exploratory/Developmental Grant (R21) mechanism. Applications should be submitted within approximately six weeks of the identified disaster event.
