GENERAL
18-1 Decision Making Under
Uncertainty Collaborative Groups
(DMUU) (NSF)
The Decision Making Under Uncertainty
(DMUU) collaborative groups competition
offers awards to support teams of researchers who will advance fundamental understanding of decision making under
uncertainty for climate change and related
long-term environmental risks. The focus
of these collaborative groups should be to
provide new knowledge about how public
officials, firms in the private sector, other
groups, and/or individuals can incorporate
existing knowledge about climate change
and related long-term environmental risks
into their decisions. In addition to generating societally useful information and tools,
DMUU collaborative groups should
enhance basic understanding within and
across the social and behavioral sciences
as well as related science and engineering
disciplines. NSF 09-544 (GG 3/10/09)

Stewardship Program (PESP)
Regional Grants (EPA)
EPA’s Office of Pesticide Programs
(OPP) in coordination with the EPA
Regional Offices, is soliciting proposals
to further the pesticide risk reduction
goals of the Pesticide Environmental
Stewardship Program (PESP). Proposed
projects must address implementation of
integrated pest management approaches
that reduce the risks associated with pesticide use in an agricultural or nonagricultural setting and demonstrate the
importance and relevancy of the project
to the goals of PESP. EPA-OPP-09-004

Pest Management (IPM) Decision Support System (EIPMDSS) program is to
support development of expert systems
that help guide, demonstrate and multiply impacts of USDA support IPM programs. The EIPMDSS created and
maintained by the successful applicant
will help these programs establish and
communicate IPM research, education,
and extension priorities; allow a diverse
group of stakeholders to obtain access to
selected program outputs; compile
LOGIC model based program reports;
and synthesize program impacts. USDACSREES-SRGP-002219 (GG 4/20/09)

Consortium (SSA)
The Financial Literacy Research Consortium (FLRC) will be an innovative, nonpartisan multidisciplinary research and
development (R&D) initiative to develop
products to better inform the public about
key financial literacy topics related to
retirement savings and planning. They are
interested in developing products—such
as Internet tools as well as print materials— that help foster retirement and other
savings strategies at all stages of the life
cycle. In addition, as part of the FLRC,
they are seeking some focus on educational products to help low and moderate
income populations successfully plan and
save for retirement and other life events,
as well as products that improve understanding of Social Security’s programs.

18-8 Glory Science Team (NASA)
The Glory mission will continue and
improve on NASA’s research on aerosol
forcing on climate change. The measurements produced by this mission and the
scientific knowledge such observation
will provide are essential to predicting
future climate change and to making
sound, scientifically based economic and
policy decisions related to environmental
change. Aerosol and cloud measurements
will be made by the Aerosol Polarimetry
Sensor (APS) and solar irradiance measurements will be made by the Total Irradiance Monitor (TIM). This particular
solicitation requests proposals for the

18-9 Finding Solutions in Challenging
Times (Sunflower)
Unlike other Sunflower Foundation funding opportunities, this Request for Proposals (RFP) asks the applicant to define
and describe the need for funding. Rather
than identify specific funding priorities,
applicants are expected to make the case
for their need. Except for the specific
exclusions that apply to all grants, the
foundation is open to reviewing requests
that reflect the needs of organizations specifically related to the current economic
downturn and its local impact on health,
health care and human services delivery.
The foundation will make awards based
on a variety of factors, including the
nature and urgency of the need described,
geographic location of the applicant organization and the number of Kansans
impacted by the service(s) offered by the
applicant. Organizations may apply only
once for funding under this announcement, regardless of which submission
deadline is chosen. RFP 10-101

Special Initiatives (ACF)
The Administration on Developmental
Disabilities (ADD) within the Administration for Children and Families (ACF),
U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services, announces the availability of
Fiscal Year (FY) 2009 funds to award
grants to plan and implement up to 15
Family Support 360 Centers for persons
with developmental disabilities. The
Developmental Disabilities Assistance
and Bill of Rights Act of 2000 authorizes
ADD to support the development of
national and State policies that reinforce
and promote, with the support of families,
guardians, advocates, and communities,
of individuals with developmental disabilities, the self-determination, independence, productivity, and integration and
inclusion in all facets of community life.

18-13 Projects of National
Significance: Family Support 360 for
Military Families
(ACF)
The Administration on Developmental
Disabilities (ADD) within the Administration for Children and Families (ACF),
U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services, announces the availability of
Fiscal Year (FY) 2009 funds to award
grants to plan and implement up to five
Family Support 360 Centers for persons
with developmental disabilities. While
many service program are available in
this country, human service systems often
fail to meet the diverse needs of an individual with developmental disabilities
and his or her family. A family may need
several services, and many human service
systems address primarily one need, such
as health, education, or employment.
These systems usually focus on one individual, not the person and his or her family. Military families usually navigate two
systems- civilian and military. Family
Support 360 Centers empower and
strengthen families. HHS-2009-ACFADD-DN-0047 (GG 4/28/09)

18-14 Rapid Assessment Post-Impact
of Disaster (R03) (NIH)
The purpose of this Funding Opportunity
Announcement (FOA) is to provide a
rapid funding mechanism for research on
the post-impact of disasters, in order to
permit access to a disaster area in the
immediate aftermath of the event. Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to
contact NIMH Program Staff before submitting a RAPID application to determine
whether or not the proposed work meets
the guidelines of this program, whether
requested RAPID funding is likely to be
available, and whether the idea should be
considered for initial submission as a
fully developed application. The RAPID
grants described in this funding opportunity announcement are designed to provide a limited sum of money for early
assessment to investigators who intend to
follow up with a full research application,
using the preliminary data from this initial
effort as a basis for their larger application. This FOA will utilize the NIH Small
Grant (R03) award mechanism and runs
in parallel with an FOA of identical scientific scope, PAR-09-172, that solicits
applications under the Exploratory/Developmental Grant (R21) mechanism. Applications should be submitted within
approximately six weeks of the identified
disaster event. PAR-09-171 (NIHG 4/24/
