Editor
You have to carry out the
assignments given to you by the
Editor. You also need to work to the
deadline the Editor has set you.
You will have to gather information
and then use it to write your articles.
You have to write in clear English
and take care with your spelling and
punctuation.
You should remember your audience
is younger children - make your
article understandable to them.
Your job is to take charge of the
production of the leaflet.
You must not copy other articles or
‘cut and paste’ information: use the
information you gather to write your
own article.
If you need help it is your
responsibility to try to get it.

Manager
You have to work to the editor’s
deadlines.
It is your job to fit the reporter’s
stories onto the pages of the leaflet
and to edit them for any errors, to
shorten them if they are too long and
to get the reporters to gat more
information if needed.
You also have to check that the
stories are suitable for a young
audience - not too complicated,
sentences not too long, layout clear
and easy to read.
You also have to find pictures and to
adjust the layout of the pages as
needed.
You need to get help when you need
it.
You have to assign tasks to your staff
and see that they are carried out.
You have to treat your staff fairly and
ensure everyone is given an equal
share of the interesting and important
tasks.
You have to help your staff with their
tasks when they need help.
Yours is the final responsibility for
the leaflet: the stories in it, the
quality of the writing and the
standard of presentation.
