UCC POLICY COMMITTEE AMENDED ADMINISTRATIVE ACTIONS November 1, 2005 I. FROM UCCPC 5/2/05 MINUTES GENERAL EDUCATION COMMITTEE Revise Catalogue copy: Req. by Werner Däppen Eff. Fall 2006 Revise the General Education categories ¾ UCCPC 5/2/05 APPROVED. At Lloyd Armstrong’s request the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences began a six-month process of revising the general education categories. It began with a faculty survey, followed by three separate panels that met concerning the categories. Open faculty hearings were held for the proposed revisions, and student focus groups also had input. The final version of the revisions was presented to the General Education Committee, which accepted them. It is hoped that the revised version can be included in the 2005-06 catalogue. At this point, the changes in definition do not affect the assignment of GE credit to courses either at USC or from elsewhere, although that may be modified in the future. ¾ FOR TODAY’S MEETING: The effective term of the following general education category title changes is changed to Fall 2005: Category I: Western Cultures and Traditions Category II: Global Cultures and Traditions Category III: Scientific Inquiry Category IV: Science and Its Significance Category V: Arts and Letters Category VI: Social Issues II.
