literature, film and visual culture that have been produced by American, Vietnamese, and overseas
Vietnamese.


Comparative study of core narratives of youth and its destiny in modern literature from China, Japan,
Korea, and Taiwan. Readings include scholarship on European literature. Cross-Listed as COLT 453.
(Approved as a new course at the November 6, 2007 UCOC meeting.)

DENIED. While topics of identity and development are interesting, the course does not meet the diversity
requirement. The issues of age (or ageism) and gender are not presented in a way that shows conflicts between
the groups in these social contexts and the relevance for comparable conflicts in American Society.
