1.
WELCOME AND APOLOGIES
1.1
CH welcomed all back from summer break and went through any staff changes; new Mandarin tutor post will be confirmed tomorrow; we now have a new assistant Receptionist, Pauline Fernandez.
2.
LANGUAGE CENTRE DEVELOPMENTS
2.1
We have restructured some parts of the Language Centre:
All English for Academic Purposes Coordinators now report directly to Language Centre Director;
We now have a new post, Academic Service Coordinator who will be responsible for Quality Assurance,
Staff Development, L.C
policies and reports and will be involved with staff mini observations;
2.2
We have installed a plasma screen on reception which will display key information about all Foreign
Language and English courses.
2.3
Self Access Centre: We now have new films on Channel 4+ available – there are still copyright issues with some TV channels; the SAC database has been updated and there has been a lot of tidying ‐ we now
also have post ‐ graduate students working part ‐ time in there to assist.
3.
2007 ‐ 2008 ACADEMIC YEAR
3.1
New premises: we will now have 3 new classrooms at Bedford Way, all with interactive whiteboards.
These are UCL bookable rooms, however we have priority booking, so we have a total of 6 Language Centre classrooms; the new rooms will hopefully be ready for Registration week;

want to use our facilities/resources instead and we have been invited, along with SOAS/SSEES to tender for this ‐ CH
has been approached by UCL to take the lead on this.
We have had to justify and demonstrate what facilities we have as they would potentially be taught on our premises.
We may also be required to teach
(clients at a Diplomatic level, those involved in Governments) and we would be measured on whether they pass exam.
We need now to put together and give evidence that we have the correct qualifications; we will need to submit C.V’s, examples of lesson plans and schemes of work – one plan per level, per language and schemes of work according to the European Credit Transfer Scheme levels (e.g.
A1/A2/B1…) Adam will provide all tutors with a template for completing a lesson plan and a scheme of work.
7.
ANY OTHER BUSINESS
7.1
Madeleine has many journals at home which would be useful in assisting with Teacher Training e.g.
“Are you ICT savvy, how Moodle can assist in teaching” – we could scan them and put them on our
intranet, otherwise the hard copies can be put in the Staff resources room;
7.2
Antonella Veccia
Meeting closed at 12.45.
will focus this year on how to integrate ICT into teaching and learning.
