Marie‐Laure Aris, Fernando Gracia‐Garcia, Carmen Requena, Will Richards, Adam Salisbury and Cristina Testi WELCOME AND APOLOGIES 1.1 Task Chains: tutors to check emails from Rob Lawson; we need to know how many tutors wish to do for budgeting reasons and these must be finished by September. Coordinators should send a breakdown to CH of who has done what to ensure correct payments. It was suggested that it has proven complex and time consuming for tutors to check and proof‐read what material already exists: 
One person from each team could be responsible for checking and proof‐reading everything in September – someone who has not yet created a task‐chain; we could set‐aside some of the funding for this. 1.2 All tutors must be at the Language Centre from Monday 13 September for Registration preparation and meetings. Registration will begin on Wednesday 22 September 2010. 2. SUMMER INTENSIVE COURSES 2.1 Registers will be distributed later today, however tutors should also check pigeonholes before their first class on Monday in case of any amendments before then; Course Units Teaching Committee Meeting 2010‐07‐01 Minutes 1 2.2 Tutors must be at the Language Centre reception 15 minutes before the first class begins. All external participants have been instructed to meet their tutor here should they not be able to find their classroom. 2.3 The only course we are not able to offer is Mandarin Intermediate, with just one applicant. 2.4 Tutors must remember that the Intermediate classes are a lot more flexible with regards to level – there will be differences between the students in class. However if tutors feel a student is too advanced for an intermediate level they should inform the office, who will ask the student to leave. We do not offer advanced level courses. 2.5 Thanks to all tutors teaching on this. Funding is available and payment will be processed in July for August payment. 3.

All tutors will receive the template for the Reading and Writing exams from the office today. An update on the allocation of points will also be circulated shortly. Tutors should make an effort to source examination texts over the summer. SYLLABI AND BOOKLISTS 4.1 Teams to confirm to office by Wednesday 07 July any details of changes to syllabi and booklists if have not already done so – even if there are no changes please confirm this. REFERRED ASSESSMENT 5.1 Agreed in meeting of 22 June that for Referred Assessments this year students will be asked to write a Project/essay. Where we have more than one student for a particular course, should we set different questions, e.g. for LCSP6001 there are potentially 7 students. All agreed. 5.2 We will provide 2 sources; 5.3 Advanced level students will be asked to choose their own sources – we can instruct them what not to use; 5.4 Students can use a dictionary; 5.5 CH read out the coursecodes for which the Referred Assessment applies to and the number of students for each; 5.6 Tutors to give Project titles and sources to office by Wednesday 07 July 2010. 6.
7.
DEFERRED ASSESSMENT 6.1 Tutors do not need to write new papers for the Deferred Assessments ‐ Coordinators will receive via email from the office copies of the Reading and Writing exams from this year; these should be amended, for the relevant levels/coursecodes. These should be completed and sent to the office by Wednesday 07 July 2010. ANY OTHER BUSINESS 7.1 The New University of Astana officially opened on Monday (28 June); CH with Michael Worton and the president of Kazakhstan was in attendance. Course will begin on 27 September. 7.2 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) forms: the form was emailed to all staff by Liyun Liao – there seems to be a problem with mailing lists, please see Paul Hogan if you did not receive the email. CPD Forms should be submitted to Isla Stewart by 16 July at the latest, who will be submitting all to HR, so it is important to log what we do throughout the year. Please also include on your form any suggestions for Staff Development sessions. 7.3 Dr Julia Schoeke will be leaving to move to Hong Kong; Claudia Geithner will return from maternity leave to teach on the German course units.
